UCLA gets another basketball recruit Tyler Honeycutt

After losing Gaddy to UA, UCLA got some welcome news today Tyler Honeycutt picked UCLA over USC. The LA TImes had reported he was announcing today and quoted his coach saying it was 50/50 UCLA and USC. With his HS having 3 coaches on the staff with ties to USC(one played for Tim Floyd at Iowa State), I got a bit nervous. He made his official visit to USC on Saturday, his official to UCLA hasn't happened yet(visited unofficially several times), and Andy Katz wrote yesterday USC expected to get 2 commits this week from Saturdays visits.

But apparently with all that saying USC, he still picked UCLA.

Great get athletic 6'7" SF just the type of kid UCLA hasn't had enough of in the Final 4 losses.

From the video I've seen he reminds me an awful lot of Tayshaun Prince, long and lean, very long arms, surprises people with how quickly he can get up and block your shot. Has a nice outside shot, good range, kind of a slow release but it goes in. He's very skilled he can handle the ball and pass the ball.

Seems like he may need to work on his quickness to guard SF's since in college so often the SF is really a 3rd guard, but his length is going to be a matchup nightmare and if he gets stronger he can play some 4 too if needed.

A really interesting class so far Nelson is an undersize 4 who can guard at the 3 sometimes. Lane is 4 who has a lot of 3 skills, excellent shooter sort of a poor man's Ryan Anderson, and Honeycutt.

I guess the primary target now is either Michael Snaer or Durand Scott at Sg to round out the class. They're still after Anthony Stover but I think it's unlikely he wants to play right away and with Morgan and Gordon a year ahead of him that seems unlikely.
