Pretty ironic we've been debating it for days on my favorite UCLA board. He's cleared for practice and was about 5 practices away from being cleared for games coming off shoulder surgery but given how much time he's missed and how much strength he lost because of the shoulder apparently they've decided to have him sit the year.

NOte, it also helps UCLA down the line since they lose Mata and expect to lose Love after this season and if Keefe has 3 years of eligibility left it helps
them down the line.

Tough break for james everyone said he had vastly improved this summer and bulked up considerably before hurting the shoulder lifting weights.

Why no redshirt for the European Budinger?

All kidding aside, I'm not a big fan of James Keefe's game as there's nothing on the court he does especially well. Hopefully this will get him some time to get his game together because based on last year he could use the practice.

I like Keefe but he was overrated, he was a McDonald's AA didn't deserve that.

Keefe is a pretty good rebounder, can shoot, and can block some shots. He played really well in the NCAA tourney after struggling much of the year to learn UCLA's defense. he'd bulked up this summer and everyone said he was playing much better, but then he hurt the shoulder.

Reality is he was the 9th man in an 8 man rotation so with all the time missed it makes sense to redshirt him and not burn the year for just a few minutes a game.

I expect Dragovich to go play in Europe after this year, he got a lot of PT early with the injuries and showed 3 things, he can make open 3's, he can't make shots that arent' wide open, he can't defend. He's just not going to play much. I think by the end of the year Stanback will be ahead of him in the rotation he's already a better defender.

I think by his junior/senior year Keefe will be a 10 PPG 7 RPG guy nothing great but a lot better than he showed last year.
