To try to avoid it raining on the Huskies' parade, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is moving the date of the celebration parade of the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team from Saturday to Sunday.
The new parade time will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13. The route and location in downtown Hartford will still be the same.
The UConn Huskies won their 12th national title this past Sunday, beating the University of South Carolina Gamecocks with a blow-out score of 82-59.
"The student athletes on this team have worked very hard and they deserve to know how much we appreciate everything they’ve accomplished," Lamont said.
The parade will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday and will begin by stepping off at the State Capitol, specifically the intersection of Trinity Street and Elm Street.
"From there, it will proceed north on Trinity Street, go through the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, turn right (east) onto Jewell Street, turn left (north) onto Trumbull Street, and end at the intersection of Asylum Street and Trumbull Street," the press release said.
The rally honoring the athletes will commence at around 1:30 p.m. outside the primary entrance of the XL Center in Hartford. Players, coaches and other featured guests may give speeches.
"As with other victory celebrations that have been held in previous years, this parade and rally are being funded by private donations through sponsorship opportunities," the press release said. "No state or city funding is being used for this event."
