Psalms 23:1
So read at your own risk.
I'm friends with a few who were on the show, and without running the risk of giving away TOO much, I'm gonna give a run down of
A) The Cast
B) The happenings (without mentioning fights and winners).
First...
The Cast
Allen Berube
Hails from Tampa, FL, by way of Biddeford, ME. He's one of the more entertaining characters this season, and should provide at least some entertainment factor, which was sorely missed last year.
Allen is the owner of two “Monstah Lobstah” restaurants in the Tampa/St.
Petersburg area. He’s relatively new to MMA, with a 2-1 record and has only trained in the sport for roughly 2 years
Nate Diaz
The younger brother of Nick Diaz, and is every bit as obnoxious and arrogant as his brother. He's the youngest cast member (21) and from what I've been told, gets in to at LEAST one fight while in the house.
Robert Emerson
One of the most experienced cast members, has competed in martial arts since he was 10. He’s previously fought and lost to Jens Pulver.
Manuel Gamburyan
Native of Armenia and the cousin of UFC welterweight,
Karo Parisyan. He’s an outstanding Judoka fighter, and reportedly is at worst on par with his cousin in that facet.
Brian Geraghty
A ground specialist who has fought the likes of Steve
Berger, Thiago Tavares, and Jorge Masvidal.
Corey Hill
The tallest of this year's cast, standing at 6'4. He’s a great wrestler, who was a standout wrestler and football player at Upper Iowa University.
Gray Maynard
The true darkhorse of this year. He was the college teammate of Rashad Evans and has trained in the past with BJ Penn, who credits Maynard with being one of the best wrestlers he's ever worked with/against. He currently trains with Randy Couture in Las Vegas.
Joe Lauzon
Considered by many to be the odds on favorite. He's an established vet, with huge knockout power, as displayed by his knock out of a guy who COULD wind up being his coach this season, Jens Pulver, at UFC 63.
Brandon Melendez
Trains out of Salt Lake City with Jeremy Horn. He’s previously fought Carlos Condit and UFC veteran Drew Fickett.
Cole Miller was an outstanding high school and college baseball player at Mercer University, who gave up the sport to concentrate exclusively on MMA. He trains in Florida with the well reknown American Top Team.
Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger
One of the most well polished fighters on the show, Ruediger boasts of both strength on the ground, in submissions and with his strikes. The native of Rancho Cucomunga, CA is 0-1 in the Octagon, losing to Melvin Guillard at UFC 63, when he was dropped with a body punch.
Marlon Sims
At 33, is the oldest cast member. He’s a former two-time state
champion in Greco Roman wrestling. He’s previously trained with Frank
Shamrock. Is also one of the most obnoxious of the cast members.
Noah Thomas
A former Marine Sergeant who is still new to MMA. He’s only
been fighting since 2005, and already has 14 fights.
Andy Wang
Born in Taipei. He played football at the University of
Hawaii and holds a black belt in jiu-jitsu. In 2003, he opened an MMA
school in Taiwan. He’s also working on a master’s degree at Cal State
Dominguez.
Wayne Weems
A good high school wrestler in the state of Illinois. That
led to the natural transition of hooking up with the Miletich camp where he
still trains.
Matt Wiman
Made his UFC debut against Spencer Fisher at UFC 60. He took the
fight on short notice and more than held his own for the first 5 minutes.
Unfortunately for Wiman, he fell victim to a highlight-reel flying knee in
the 2nd round. Only 23 years old, he’s still learning the world of MMA – a
trait that will come in handy for a man who has the audacity to carry the
nickname, “Handsome.”
Some other stuff..
BJ Penn antagonizes and manages to piss off Jens Pulver and Dana White pretty much all season. In terms of coaching, he makes Matt Hughes from Season 2 seem like a pussycat.
Gabe Ruediger and Marlon Sims wind up getting in to a legit scrap on the show.
Same with Nick Diaz and Corey Hill.
Joe Lauzon winds up on Jens Pulver's team.
