North Carolina was the only school among the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA men's tournament to graduate at least 50 percent of its players. A report released Monday found 86 percent of Tar Heels men's players earned diplomas during a six-year period. The other top seeds were far worse: 45 percent at Kansas and 40 percent at UCLA and Memphis.

the part of these stories I hate is how they play up the numbers and play down the years. It was 97-2001, which was the Lavin dark years at UCLA. Since then not only has the team gotten better, the academics have gotten much stronger(not a coincidence IMHO). Memphis' had gotten worse although this year I think theyr'e actually graduating a couple of seniors. UNC's I have no idea about same with Kansas.

I think a lot of teams are doing better, Oregon has 5 seniors all of whom have already graduated. There are still teams out there who are pretty deplorable at it. The studies are accurate but wholly out of date. I think they need to make it abundantly clear what years they're talking about since most people don't read the whole story carefully.
