Sir Derek Jacobi the Underworld 2 Baddie
Source: Moviehole
November 12, 2004

Moviehole tells us they have confirmed with Sony's Screen Gems that Sir Derek Jacobi (Gosford Park) has been cast as the main villain in the studio's Underworld 2, to be directed by Len Wiseman and coming to theaters on November 23, 2005.

Jacobi will apparently be playing the character of Marcus in the film. The site says that filming on the sequel will start this month in Vancouver. Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman return in their roles from the first film.

Jacobi just completed a role in the British comedy Nanny McPhee, starring Emma Thompson and Colin Firth. He's also appeared in such films as Gladiator and Hamlet.

I could watch Kate Beckinsale walk across the screen in tight leather all day.

Underworld is one of the best low budget films to come out in a long time.

Great plot.

The first one...

Agreement on Kate all muted out in skintight leather. Love it. I also really liked the presentation of their movements and their social structure. The plot itself, wasn't bad.

Yet, I don't know, something stuck in my craw with it. Maybe the vampire leader/wuss was just such a weak character. Maybe I couldn't connect with any of the Lycan characters (I should have been made to with the head honcho). Of course, I'm a little miffed at them using Lycans. I was using that term in a fantasy setting storyline about 5 years ago.

I think Underworld could have been better in some ways, but it was still good enough to purchase. I'm interested to see what the plot of the new movie is.

I think the Vampire leader in the first one, not the old man resurrected, but the other guy, was such a bad actor, it bothered me a lot.

But the movie itself was fun, I liked it...can't wait for the sequel.

Yeah! That guy.

That and the Lycan leader was just so uncharismatic.

Luma Creating Underworld F/X
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
May 5, 2005

Luma Pictures has signed on as lead visual effects house for Lakeshore Entertainment/Screen Gems' Underworld: Evolution.

The Hollywood Reporter says the visual effects work for the sequel is expected to be more ambitious than for the first film and will feature CG creatures.

Luma is expected to deliver digital matte paintings, CG set extensions, green screen composites, particle effects and other visuals to enhance the film.

True, but at least the Lycan leader could act. I had to either cringe or laugh when that other idiot was on the screen.

Did you guys watch the extras on the first Underworld DVD? The way they did the werewolves, and the leg stilts they used were awesome. Also, they took a guy out in the Lycan outfit all over Canada and the looks on people's faces were great! :)

This movie kicked much ass.

AND....Kate is naked in it...well mostly naked. They show as much as humanly possible without the full monty

As far as the movie itself, it delves into the histories more of the Vampires and the Lycans. You can tell this movie actually had a budget, and the CGI is much better.

The action is fantastic, though the deaths have this Mortal Combatesque thing happening where you can just hear in your head "Finish Him!" right before something CRAZY happens.

The acting is pretty much on par with the first one, which is decent, but not fantastic. Eye candy is as gorgeous as it was in the first movie.

It was applauded by the audience at the end of the late show, but it was mostly a younger crowd.

Between the graphic sex and violence, it definitely earned it's R rating.

I would say the special effects and action are better, but it lacked all the double crosses of the first one. I would say they are equal, which is good for a sequal.

Probably, but the first one was pretty bad, so my hopes were never very high for the 2nd one.

As a Remeo and Juliet type of rip off, I thought the first one was pretty good. What I think it did well was immersing you into that version of the world and making it believable. Hopefully the second one does just as well on this front. I have to admit, I own the DVD of the first one, when it went on sale in the previously viewed bin. :)

Not good...they didn't even screen this movie for Ebert and Roper...

Doesn't usually mean good things...too bad.

A buddy of mine had some free passes and since they were his free passes it was his pick so I saw this movie even though I didnt like the first one, but I thought I would give if another shot.

You could tell the difference in budget which made for much better CGI and action sequences then the last one. I liked the whole history part of the story, but I just couldnt get past the acting and the overall writting.

Lets just say I am glad I didnt shell out money to see this movie. Kate is hot but not hot enough to make this movie good.

Continuing the Kate Beckinsale in tight leather theme - watched the other night. Enjoyed the movie, good twist on the mysterious older man.
