UNLV is finalizing a deal to hire former Memphis and Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner as its men's basketball coach, according to multiple reports.
Pastner, 47, has 14 seasons of college head coaching experience with seven seasons each at Memphis and Georgia Tech.
Pastner joined Memphis as John Calipari's replacement and coached the Tiger to a 167-73 record from 2009-16 in a stint that included three Conference USA tournament championships and four trips to the NCAA tournament. Memphis advanced to the Sweet 16 twice under Pastner.
After his run at Memphis, Pastner jumped to the ACC to coach the Georgia Tech in 2016. He didn't find nearly as much success with the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech went 109-114 in seven seasons under Pastner, making the NCAA tournament just once after a surprise run to the ACC conference tournament championship as the No. 4 seed in 2021. The Yellow Jackets lost the first round of the NCAA tournament as a No. 9 seed.
Pastner's time at Georgia Tech was marred by NCAA sanctions brought on by recruiting violations under his watch. The NCAA issues Georgia Tech a postseason ban for 2020, when the NCAA tournament was ultimately canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Georgia Tech fired Pastner in 2023 following a 15-18 campaign for his fourth losing season in seven with the program.
