The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects who the Green Bay Packers could select in the 2025 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers have had a lot of moving parts at the cornerback position this offseason. They've lost Eric Stokes, Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell in free agency and inked Nate Hobbs to a four-year deal.

The biggest domino that has yet to fall is the status of Jaire Alexander. Brian Gutekunst continues to comb the trade market for a potential deal. A potential trade could happen during draft weekend or shortly after the draft.

The mini remodel of the cornerback room inside 1265 Lombardi Avenue will continue during the 2025 NFL Draft, where Gutekunst could use a pair of picks on the position.

A potential target on Day 3 of the draft is Jason Marshall Jr. The Florida Gators cornerback checks in at No. 10 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.

A five-star recruit out of Florida, Marshall recorded two tackles for loss and one interception during his first season on campus in 2021. The following season, Marshall recorded one tackle for loss, one interception and eight pass deflections. In 2023, he recorded three tackles for loss, one sack and 10 pass deflections.

This past season, Marshall missed the final six games of the season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. In seven games, Marshall recorded two tackles for loss and four pass deflections.

I'm excited to see how Jason Marshall Jr performs this fall under Will Harris, who coached Trent McDuffie, Kyler Gordon, Elijah Molden, the list goes on at UW.

"Marshall represented seniority and leadership in a defensive back room that was quite young, especially after the loss of transfer ASA Turner," Adam Dubbin, the managing editor of Gators Wire, said. "However, his career in Gainesville can be best described as 'underwhelming.' He arrived as a five-star recruit out of Miami Palmetto but never really lived up to that billing. While he made incremental progress over his tenure with the Gators, it seemed like for every big play he made there were a few mistakes or simply instances of getting outplayed — the latter of which can happen easily in the SEC — that dulled any luster he might have gotten. That said, by the time his senior season arrived, he was a seasoned veteran of the collegiate gridiron who undoubtedly had a positive influence on youngsters such as Jordan Castell."

Marshall is a tall, lanky corner who plays with clean feet. He has loose hips and is fluid in his backpedal. The former five-star recruit has good footwork to stay in the wide receiver’s hip pocket. He shows good pattern recognition and is able to jump routes. He has easy acceleration and long speed (4.49 40-yard dash) to stay attached on a vertical plane. The Gators cornerback battles wide receivers at the catch point. A high school wide receiver, he has natural hands and doesn't panic when the ball is in the air.

Jason Marshall Jr. is a CB prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 9.42 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 160 out of 2752 CB from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/gn1kyj5A0Xpic.twitter.com/l4bYtEfZxs

"His frame and strength give him an edge on smaller or similar-sized receivers and is smooth in tracing his coverage routes," Dubbin said. "But those positives are mitigated by indecisiveness, poor hand work and weak tackling."

Marshall shows flashes of being a reliable presence in run support, but the urgency isn't always there. He doesn't always take proper angles to the ball carrier and is inconsistent with his technique.

Fit with the Packers

Marshall has all the tools to develop into a reliable boundary cornerback. He started 37 games for the Gators and the flashes are certainly there.

Before suffering his season-ending injury, Marshall looked to be on his way to enjoying a career year under Will Harris, Florida's cornerback coach who coached the likes of Trent McDuffie, Kyle Gorden and Elijah Molden during his time at the University of Washington. It's reasonable to think that the best is yet to come for a player who is still 22 years old.

"His physical attributes cannot be denied but the issues that are holding him back are mostly in mindset and discipline," Dubbin said. "He is still just 22 years old so there is still some plasticity left in his learning abilities, but you would need a plan/system in place already to accommodate his needs."

With his size, athleticism and experience, Marshall would be a great value pick on Day 3 of the draft. The Packers need depth at the position and hosted the Florida cornerback on a 30 visit. He has the talent to challenge for starting reps as a rookie and could become a starter during his rookie contract. He's only 22 years old and if the Packers coaching staff could harness his talent, he could develop into a cornerstone piece in the secondary.
