Collegiate baseball has the UofA their preseason #1 team. The Cats have a lot of talent and one of the best pitchers in the country in Preston Guilmet. They return a bunch of starters on offense and almost the entire pitching staff. This is going to be an exciting year. By the way, ASU is ranked #3. Maybe their series at the end of the year will be for the conference title?

College baseball is a lot of fun (forget what Mao says), it would be really exciting if it came down to that last series to see if ASU could defend their Pac10 crown.

EDIT: VVV Couldn't similar arguments be made against college basketball? The season and halves are too short, and the 3 point line is a joke. Not to mention the ridiculous 35 second clock. Most of the super talented players only stay for one year, and with the NBDL now, who knows if they'll even do that. You don't get many European, South American or Asian players either.

That being said, I enjoy both, but I think they each have their problems (I.M.O. the metal bats and joke of a 3 point line ought to be changed immediately).

Said it before and I'll say it again. Can't spend my time and energy on a product with metal bats, no Hispanic/Asian players, and half of the American amateur talent even if Arizona is good.

I enjoy college baseball a lot. The only drawback are games can last four hours or more. This UofA team is going to be exciting. The only thing that I am concerned about is the lack of power. The pitching has the potential to be the best group the Cats have ever had.

No.

1. Most of the super-talented baseball players don't even go to college, at least we get one year from the elite guys in college hoops. The talented baseball players that go to school leave early as well after their three years.

2. The three point line has been extended a foot starting next season.

3. College basketball rosters are stacked with foreign players. Arizona last year had three foreigners and two this year, UCLA has two foreign players on their roster, Wazzu has a bunch, Cal's starting point guard is Serbian, etc. etc. You see a lot of smaller programs going after foreign players due to their inability to compete with the big boys on the local recruiting trail. One of the best freshman and PG's in the country is going to St. Mary's College and recruited out of Australia.

I love college baseball. Surprising to see both of our teams in the top 3 and hopefully it stays that way. Should be a good season.

Whatever happened to just supporting a team because they wore your school uniforms?

College baseball is GREAT. I'm very excited about the UA team this year. I couldn't believe it when guys like Ziegler, Schlereth and Sedbrook all came back, and we didn't lose any of our top recruits to the draft.

ASU is ranked #3. Maybe their series at the end of the year will be for the conference title?

Last year's series with ASU was for the title. Of course, they had already clinched a tie, and when they won 2 out of 3 they ended up winning the league by 4 games, but we at least had a chance before the series started. :) Hopefully for this year's series - in Tucson - the roles will be reversed.

Looks like the JC transfer 3B Dillon Baird will help the offense.

The big thing is he's left-handed. With Ziegler, Glenn and Steele, the middle of our lineup was going to be righty-heavy. We either need Gaston to pick up his power numbers or someone liek Baird to step up to balance things out.

Only 35 more days till practice starts. :)
