The East Region No. 3-seed Wisconsin Badgers opened their NCAA Tournament with an 85-66 win over No. 14-seed Montana on Thursday.
Wisconsin and its second-round opponent, No. 6-seed BYU, were the only East Region teams in action that day, with the other six contests taking place throughout Friday. Wisconsin and BYU's respective triumphs over double-digit seeds were a sign of things to come. Entering the second round, the East Region has yet to see a single upset.
The round of 32 includes games between the region's No. 1 vs. No. 8 seeds, No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5. While Thursday and Friday's collection of chalk results eliminated any early-round magic or Cinderella teams, it did set the stage for an entertaining weekend of action. The region now guarantees to have highly-ranked teams in top form playing for a trip to the Final Four.
