What should we do? Melvin said more or less that he will platoon at 2B, SS, 3B. You can tell he's trying to be careful but it seems that Counsell won't see much time at SS which should be expected. I'm hoping that he plays primarily at 3rd to get Tracy out of the lineup. Thank God Counsell's a class act and realizes Drew is the future and isn't putting up any attitude. He's a class act

Counsell, Green await news
SAN FRANCISCO - One is still bracing for the possibility of being traded to New York. The other just learned his role on the club is about to change, perhaps dramatically. But neither Shawn Green nor Craig Counsell can say with any certainty what it all means.
This is what they know right now: Green, who had been Arizona's regular starter in right field until the promotion last month of Carlos Quentin, almost seems convinced the Diamondbacks are going to come to him any minute now to tell them they have brokered a deal with the Mets to send him to the National League East Division leaders.
"Obviously, if it happens, it's going to happen soon," Green said before Monday's game at AT&T Park, where he watched from the bench as Quentin made his 14th start in right. "It's gotten to that point now."
Counsell, who joined the team Monday after a three-game, minor-league rehab assignment to test a healed rib fracture, was told by manager Bob Melvin that rookie Stephen Drew was going to continue to receive his share of starts at shortstop.
Melvin didn't name Drew the everyday starter, however.
"Stephen's going to be here; Stephen's going to play. So is Craig," Melvin said. "Whether Craig plays a little at second at times, maybe third, it's a chance to give some other guys some days off, and he will play those positions as well.
"But he will play shortstop. How it exactly works out, I'm not sure yet. It's going to be more feel than anything."
Counsell, who developed a tight hamstring over the weekend and probably won't be activated from the disabled list until today, didn't gripe about the change.
"Stephen's going to play, so I'll just play when they tell me to," he said, adding, "It is what it is. It's their call. It's whatever they want to do. It's the way it is."
Green, meanwhile, said the on-again, off-again rumors of his departure to the Mets have been gnawing at him.
"Sometimes, I don't know if I'm coming or going, so to speak," he said. "It's been kind of a roller coaster. But over the past week or so, I've gotten to the point where I tell myself, 'Whatever happens, happens.'
"I can say Quentin is a great young player, and he's ready to play at this level, obviously. . . . But I expect to be an everyday player as well."
Green indicated he would likely waive his no-trade clause if the Mets and Diamondbacks can work out the financial aspects of the deal. A sticking point is the $9.5 million owed to him next year, and which team will pick up the brunt of the salary.
