If Upton keeps striking out, he wont be back up in the majors this season.

in his last 14 ABs in AAA he has 3 hits (1 HR) and 8 Ks.
In his 29 ABs he has 12 ks.

What is wrong with this kid!!???!! We cant have Reynolds, Upton, Dunn, and Young striking together in the same lineup or teams will be putting up twenty K games against us.

It was reported today on azcentral.com that Mark Reynolds has been taking some fielding practice at 2B, in anticipation of Upton returning to RF, which would move Tracy to 3B and Dunn to 1B . Sometimes.

It also mentioned moving Dunn to LF and Jackson back to 1B, a position he said he feels uncomfortable at.

Under this scenario, I'd like to see Dunn moved to 1B (he's played there before and would be replacing a man who is certainly not a 1B) and leave Conor in LF.

And I'd like to see a decision made and stuck to, instead "an occasional position change" of Upton, Dunn, Tracy and, hopefully not Jackson, too) coming to the part each day not knowing what their role will be.

But when you have a Manager who can't make a decision beyond today, that's highly unlikely.

Has Upton had his eyes checked? Seriously.

I hope Conor remains in LF, regardless of what they do with Dunn, Upton, Reynolds or Tracy. I'm not thrilled with Dunn playing the outfield,. it's like Chris Young often has to fly in like Superman to help him out, so put Dunn at 1B.
Byrnes gets more irrelevant by the day...

is it possible byrnes gets cut after the season?
If Adam Dunn is, in fact, a rent-a-player for this season, what happens next season?

It goes without saying that Eric Brynes is not a replacement for 25% of Adam Dunn in the batting order. Eric Brynes is not a replacement for Alex Romero.

Moving Dunn to 1B when Upton returns would psychologically not have an available spot for Byrnes next season.

But Upton is striking out in his Minor League rehab. Maybe we can trade Byrnes and a few million dollars for a cleanup hitter and a Hitting Coach.

I can dream, can't I?

We may see what our GM is made of

Personally, I feel the DBacks should go to Eric Byrnes and his agent and professionally tell them that he no longer fits the DBacks plans and what can be worked out in terms of a trade? The DBacks would have to agree to eat some portion of his salary in the trade to a new team. In the meantime, the team should sign Dunn and do what it takes to keep him. He makes a radical and positive difference in what kind of pitching gets thrown at the lineup every day.

On another front the poster who suggested Upton might need his eyes checked is dead on. I truly believe a couple of guys like Young and Upton may suffer from vision deficiencies that they don't even realize they have. I knew when my distance problem improved versus reading when I started seeing distances better and then had trouble picking up or refocusing on things up close. I knew this because I read alot and noticed the change from needing corrective glasses for distance to not needing it all the time and needing reading magnification. These guys are young and may not even see vision checks as something that is important at their current ages.

Young has swung at pitches literally in the left hand batters box on several occassions and that is more than just being fooled.

Great point. Not only his vision, but obstructions.

Decades ago, a Dodger ballplayer named Carl Furillo (a steady .290's hitter) hit only .247 one season.

The opthomologist who examined him discovered dust particles in his eyes and did surgery.

The following season, Carl Furillo won the NL batting title with an average of .344 -- 97 points higher.

Average the .247 and .344 together and come out to .295. But without the exam and surgery, .247 would have become the norm.

How many Ks would RJ have tallied against that lineup in his prime?

My bet is upton is not getting a whole lot of good pitches to look at with a bunch of AAA players around him?

Its doubtful, but possible. O-Dogg probably isnt coming back. Ortiz comes off the books. Attendance is up. If we make the playoffs, I can see the F.O. opening the purse strings a little more next year. The only thing in the way: nothing should be done until Webbie gets his extension

Dunn signing would mean the end of O-Dogg, and either Reynolds or Upton switching positions.

But Webb is the priority.

Ortiz comes off the books, music to my ears. They must get the soon-to-be-20-game-winner signed, even past the end of Haren's term. The D-backs are seeing how well they may do without O-Dog and if they do well enough without him, he will be expendable, sad to say. Whatever it takes to keep Dunn must be done. DONKEY!
