I read Mr. Urban's article dashing the idea that DJ might start at guard. There is always the temptation to stay with vets as opposed to rookies. However in this case Boehm has little more starting experience at guard. In fact he has far less if you consider college. Boehm was thrown in as a desperation move as the Cards began to run out of linemen. He played far better than anyone could have expected. He held up well in pass protection, but I saw no 2nd level run blocks. There may have been a couple, but his lack of guard play experienced showed. I think it's great the Cards now have a versatile lineman who may eventually be the starting center. I'm not sure they even re-sign Shipley if they know they can get DJ. I'm certain they didn't expect to find someone like that in round 4.

I think they'll start Shipley, but Boehm will see snaps at center. He also may start the season at guard. O-line coordination is critical. So the tendency would be to stay with Shipley & Boehm, but at some point I believe DJ's skill set will be too hard to ignore. It wouldn't shock me if after preseason they decide to go with DJ as the starter and let Boehm back up both positions. It's a nice problem to have. There seems little question DJ is the eventual starter. I also think he stays on the right side. I know the other DJ well enough to feel certain he's seen film on the new DJ and is excited to envision running behind him.

seems like the coaching staff managing expectations

it does seem really early to declare it wont happen

Yea I think he has a very good chance to start, but they will make him go through the rookie phase and make him earn it.

I agree 100% Harry and responded to Urban's blog. What i said was -- the extra week of training camp and added PS game should help Dorian Johnson's chances of being the Week 1 starter. Johnson is much more physically suited to play RG than Evan Boehm. Like you said it is a good problem to have because then it would allow the Cardinals to give Boehm more reps at center with the hope that he will become the starter, sooner rather than later.

It took me a little bit to realize you weren't talking about Humphries. I was getting sick to my stomach of the thought of moving him to guard!!

I agree that this may be a matter of "managing expectations."

I'm also guessing that this may be partly BA following the old school policy of not promoting rookies before they've earned it.

I agree, Jeff. But if Brad Pitt shows up two months before the film begins and is looking for work, it might be a good idea to give him the lead. Give the other player another role.

I think Dorian starts the season at RG. I just see his skill set much better than Boehm at playing guard.

I don't think it will take much for DoJo to show something. He's physically a better prospect.. he just needs to show he can mentally handle it.

Can see plenty of plays with all three of them running down the field trucking opponents. DJ3.

Dorian hasn't even taken a practice snap let alone played in a game for us. Isn't it premature to hand him a starting job this early?

On paper he can be the most ready to play from our rookie class
And we have also a hole at rg ,he just have to win a competition with Boehm
