First off I have to say the more I see how good USC is, the more I'm amazed they lost to UW. You have to hand it to Pete he's got insane talent and depth, Allen Bradford was the #1 RB yesterday, he's normally #3 but McKnight was dinged and Johnson of course is out after that horrific weightlifting accident. Bradford looks good enough to start for a lot of schools, just under 150 yards, runs very tough, physical kid.

I have to admit early on I was really getting tired of the Barkley hype, they were protecting him with playcalling etc and people were overstating him as a player. But I have to say, that kid is incredible, he leads the conference in passing yards per game ,and his pocket presence at his age is stunning. Repeatedly in this game he'd step away from a rush and complete a big throw downfield. For a true freshman he's remarkably poised.

Now on to the officiating, in a word, horrible. Everytime OSU got a big pass play it'd come back either for a hold or an illegal block. They killed one drive with a bogus block in the back call and then on the punt Damian Williams goes 60 for a TD and there's a blatant block in the back that springs him for the TD, and they don't call it.

OSU comes back down field all the way to the goalline where they score on a pass to the older Rodgers brother. He catches the ball in the endzone, Mays comes over late, forearm up, comes across the head of Rodgers, rips his helmet off and knocks him down. Camera picks up a ref looking right at it, no call. He caught the ball so it's a TD, but it should have been 15 yards after the play. This time even the announcers said this is getting ridiculous, if that's not a penalty what is, and how can a ref looking right at it not call him ripping the guys helmet off? On the ensuing kickoff USC gets away with 2 blocks in the back but they call a 3rd which was a low block. After the flag Carroll goes bananas on the sideline screaming about the call and workign the refs and even the announcers said given the recent calls/no calls I have no idea what Pete is upset about.

Side note, as always USC is loaded with pro prospects, I love Mays but I have to say one of my favorite guys in the next draft is TE Anthony McCoy of USC. That kid is amazing, he's a phenomenal blocker, seems like every big run he's got a block on it. And he's averaging around 20 yards per catch, big target, can run. Given our TE troubles that's one kid I'd keep an eye on, he's a senior so he's in the draft for sure.

I also love Damian Williams, I realize WR is the last of the cards needs but that kid is so good after the catch.

Now as good as Barkley has looked I still say the best freshman QB in the country that I've seen is Andrew Luck at Stanford. That kid has everything, size, arm, legs, poise etc. Barkley is amazign for a true freshman but I think Luck is a better pro prospect.

I guess the Pac-10 officials are just being super lax against SC ever since the ND game (Terrible officiating as well). Pac-10 refs are the worst in college football and everyone knows that, but i do agree that Taylor Mays should have been flagged for the helmet play on Rodgers.

Helluva flap going on in the SEC also. Makes one wonder what is going on.

osu/usc officials

It has appeared for a long time that officials have always favored the Southern Cal teams. I have been a Beaver fan for a long time, and it is great to see the line up of our smaller team against the goliath of USC and compete with them. If we could get a evenly called match in the pac 10, the race for the Rose Bowl would tighten for all teams.

Same thing in the PAC and SEC. They try and protect their BCS teams. If a team gets 2 losses they have no hope of playing for a title.

If they're not going to have a playoff I wish they'd just go back to the Pac vs. the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl. Then everybody could just focus on winning the PAC and we wouldn't need to worry about the BCS implications.

The payoff is too big to leave to chance?

You had to like Kiffin's comment on why he kicked the FG when he did. He said I was afraid to run another play because i knew the refs would call holding and take us out of FG range.

Note, I'm not saying USC isn't good, they're the most talented team in the pac 10 without question, but UW already proved any given Saturday things can happen, OSU proved it last year, and might have proved again in this game if not for the constant calls taking away plays from them.
