Not a huge article but it says that Mike Garrett claims OJ Mayo refused to cooperate when USC wanted to talk to him in relation to their own investigation of the allegations Mayo took money. After USC sanctioned themselves Mayo's new agent came out and said Mayo was happy to cooperate and respond to specific questions but nobody from USC or the NCAA ever asked.

Last week the NCAA said that wasn't true they'd tried to talk to everyone involved in the case but some people(read OJ Mayo) were uncooperative.

Today Garrett came right out and said he refused to cooperate with us.

With all the articles lately it seems everyone is willing to call out Floyd, call out Garrett, call out USC but I really am not seeing anybody in the media just come out and call out Mayo for just flat out lying repeatedly while everyone else is getting in trouble for something he did.

Wasn't OJ Mayo sort of tainted as a recruit? Didn't people back off because of it?

Oh completely. I was here when he first said he was going to USC saying he'd never actually play college ball because he was a pro already. I have no sympathy at all for Tim Floyd, Mike Garrett or USC for taking him.

My issue is Mayo isn't taking any hit over this, Floyd lost his job and his rep as a college coach was deservedly destroyed. Garrett will lose his job and his rep is done. Guillory is looking at jail time. The current players, only some of whom played with Mayo are now on probation and banned from the postseason, Mayo's own brother is currently deemed ineligible by the NCAA(he's still in HS) and Mayo is happily playing in the NBA issuing phony statements through his agent.

I want to see one of the major media outlets do a story where they point out Mayo was not just complicit in all this he was the CAUSE of all this.

It would be interesting to see all of these guys -- Mayo, Bush, McKnight -- brought to some kind of justice. I think it shows the need for some kind of federal oversight into amateur athletics. The NCAA has no teeth even for its membership schools. The Bush case is a good example ... they had no power to really investigate because they could not look at the Bush family financial statements, even though all the facts pointed towards startling benefits to them for Bush's future NFL prospects. It wasn't until it was brought into a court of law that anyone got a glimpse of how much was given to the Bush family.

MG: Listen OJ, is this you with Guillory - we know it's you OJ - we know you took the car OJ - and the money - that's you with guillory isn't it OJ - just tell us you took the money OJ

OJ: :|

MG: Tell us about the money you little brat

OJ: :|

*MG self sanctioning the program* -"do you see what happens OJ? do you see what happens when you screw your program in the back - do you see what happens OJ!"

===============

I'd be shocked if USC did more than a cursory investigation to see how much could be stuck back on them as opposed to a full investigation into what was going on and how to stop it and correct it

To me all he is saying - we tried, but that dang kid stonewalled us - what would you want us to do - we tried to investigate, but he shut us down

No I'm not defending USC at all I've been saying for years Mayo was going to get them on probation, long before he ever played there.

My point is so far it looks like the only person who will come out of this unharmed in some way is Mayo.

And now the blow USC basketball may never recover from.... Lil Romeo kicked off the basketball team.

He says it's from an "incident" 2 years ago. Not sure exactly what that could be other than he was suspended at the start of the year for playing in a non NCAA approved game? All I can think is USC is trying to make it look like they're cleaning house now.

Ironic since Romeo's dad is a central figure in the Renardo Sidney case at MSU because the NCAA thinks Master P paid Sidney to be on his AAU team.

I read an article in SI about 2 years ago about how there was an event where there were some USC recruits in attendence and Lil Romeo asked Tim Floyd which recruits he wanted and Floyd replied "all of them". I guess Romeo was going to be their sponser and as Floyd was about to give him $40 which is the most that can be spent on a recruit during the visit, Romeo being a rich kid kind of looked at Floyd funny and told Floyd "Don't worry about it". One can make an assumption that Romeo was going to pay for the evening with daddy's money. Maybe it could have something to do with that.

Yeah and FLoyd was the one telling that story so at the time I just assumed it was a joke but you could be right.
