U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati announced today that Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the U.S. team a month after losing to Mexico in the Gold Cup final.

“We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years,” said Gulati. “During his time as the head coach of our men’s national team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change."

This announcement comes after a meeting at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., between Gulati, Bradley and U.S. Soccer CEO Dan Flynn.

"It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob," Gulati said. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Bradley was named the head coach of the U.S. team in January of 2007 and during his five-year tenure compiled a 43-25-12 record. He led the team to a number of accomplishments, including winning the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, finishing second in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, winning the World Cup qualifying group and advancing to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

U.S. Soccer says it will have a further announcement on Friday, which likely will include the naming of Bradley's replacement.

Seems like they have their guy already

If this was possible, why not do it right after the gold cup? Give our new coach a chance to get more acclimated before these games coming up..

Oh, and so glad I won't have to see Skelator on the sidelines anymore. Time to rebuild US Soccer from the ground up.

Not surprising given Gulati's comments (or non-comments) after the Gold Cup. We'll see how this goes, but I fear the USMNT's troubles run far deeper than a simple coaching switch.

What are you guys' expectations, should you land a coach like Klinsmann?

I expect to see a different look as to how they play, more flexibility and better tactics...as for results, it may take a little while.

Also I don't expect Michael Bradley to be an automatic 90 minute player every game (not that Bradley isn't good but he has more minutes than any other player on the national team the past few years).

I do look forward to the fact that the new coach should have some say as to who the new U20 & U23 coaches are as those positions are currently vacant.

Probably had to take time negotiating with the new coach before firing Bradley.

I think this is exactly it, had USSF not been able to get what they considered an upgrade they would have stuck with Bradley. I am actually quite impressed they were able to keep negotiations quiet, not a peep from soccer journalists or blogs about a coaching search.

Should be an interesting couple of weeks before the Mexico friendly.

At least the new coach will have half a MLS season and a full season of Euro leagues to scout potential US players before qualifying starts.

He better have a say. Need more consistency coming up through the ranks.
