Sunday came along and the whole family hit the DSG for the Women's National Team vs Brazil! We had 1st row tickets and were PUMPED up for this one. Unfortunately it had to be like 100 degrees and we were not in the shade at all! Very very hot...

No Marta for Brazil either that was a bummer. Overall was a friendly type game atmosphere. Nobody really got overly excited either way. USA controlled more possession, and tried many give and gos... lot of flicks back... instead of the typical long ball style we are used to watching them play. Don’t get me wrong USA did try the long ball way too many times, but Heather Mitts really pushed up hard on the right side quite a bit in the 1st half and Heather O’Reilly makes a nice attaching squad with Natasha Kai and Abby Wambach. I wish we saw Aly Wagner in the middle more then Shannon Boxx, but overall I see this starting lineup being what we bring to the Olympics.

I saw a stat where the Brazil team has played maybe 6 matches this season opposed to 30 + for the USA team. Wonder how that plays out for the Olympics.

Check my blog for some pics we took..

You don't usually see a MLS basher get stoked about watching the womens squad.

hah i dont consider myself a mls basher.. i have seen almost every rapids match and have seen them a fgew times this season. i think the mls could be a ton better, maybe someday. also when you have two daughters who play soccer and they get excited about going and watching abby wambach it's hard not to be stoked about it... anything to get them interested works for me....

plus watching heather mitts you can't go wrong....

hope it's not serious, but it kinda looked pretty bad...

yea it sucks when you lose your best player right before a huge tournament but i gotta think they will become more of a possession team with natasha kai and heather oreilly up top instead of constant long ball after long ball....

Wambach's broken leg mars U.S. win over Brazil

SAN DIEGO -- On a night when the United States woman should have been eyeing the upcoming Olympics, they were dealt a crushing blow to their gold medal hopes when Abby Wambach broke her left leg.

Wambach, the team's leading scorer, was carted off the field after a violent collision in the first half of a 1-0 win over Brazil. Wambach is expected to be out for 12 weeks and will miss the Olympics, which start in three weeks.

Wambach fractured both her tibia and fibula and will have surgery Thursday to have a titanium rod inserted into her leg.

The US will still medal even without Wambach, they have some serious depth (wish the same could be said of the mens side).
