Salt Lake City, UT - On Tuesday night, the Utah Hockey Club hosted the Seattle Kraken for their third and final matchup of the season. Heading into the game, Seattle had a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, but Utah came out strong, determined to secure a win on home ice.
The game was marked by a standout performance from Utah, who were up 7-0 before the start of the third period with 53 shot attempts and 29 shots on goal. Utah’s offense was relentless throughout the night and capitalized on their power play opportunities, scoring three goals while on the man advantage. Former Kraken player Kailer Yamamoto contributed to Utah’s dominant performance, scoring his second goal of the season in the first period.
Joey Daccord, filling in for the ill Philipp Grubauer, struggled to contain Utah's offensive onslaught, unable to stop the flood of goals. Meanwhile Karel Vejmelka, Utah's goaltender, was in top form, stopping 24 of 25 shots. He preserved the shutout through most of the game until the Kraken’s Jared McCann netted his 21st goal of the season and 59th point.
One notable highlight from the game was the debut of goaltender Victor Ostman, who replaced Daccord before the start of the third period. Ostman, a former Maine Black Bear, was called up on an emergency basis from the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds, along with Ryan Winterton, ahead of the game.
With the victory, Utah delivered a strong statement to close out their season series with Seattle. As for the Kraken, they now have a much-needed day off before traveling to Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights Thursday night in their final road game of the regular season.
