"Van Arsdale said he was impressed with forward Luke Walton of Arizona, swingman Jason Kapono of UCLA and playmaker Troy Bell of Boston College."

Wouldn't Bill Walton just **** his pants on draft day if we picked Luke Walton? Frankly, the guy may be a tweener, or not big enough for the NBA yet, but he is a gamer. He would fit well with the Suns in that he is a big man who can run the floor and shoot. He also has some low post moves. I would love if we would pick up Walton. I'm an NAU alumn and I would be happy with this Wildcat!

Looks like Luke inherited Dad's brittle bones.

I like his game (if I'm picking guys who are versatile, team players). But, nothing exactly stands out (NBA requires some of that).

He can pass good for a big guy. But, his J is erratic. And, he'll have trouble defending quick 4's.

Put him with SAC, Dallas, Nets, or Lakers and he'll do quite well.

I would puke if we drafted any of those guys with the 17th pick - or any draft pick at all for that matter.

Well, unless the Suns make a trade Chap, we won't see Walton UNLESS it is at 17. I am not sure how these Euros work out this year, except they are usually 18, 19 years old, and I get the feeling a lot of them will benefit from the Euro hype that is going on this year. I just hope we don't get stuck with a Euro stiff. At least with a US college guy you have more of a handle of how he plays. Walton reminds me of a Danny Manning type of player. A guy who has court smarts and makes the guys around him better players. I am not 100% wanting Walton, but depending on how everyone goes off the board in the first round, I wouldn't be averse to seeing the Suns end up with him. I get a weird feeling the Suns are trying like hell to move up in the draft or get a second pick. It just seems weird some of the guys we are bringing in that look to be out of our range, both above and below the 17th pick.

Well, there's only 13 days before the draft, but I think in this particular draft, people will be moving up and down very rapidly.

I like Luke Walton as much as the next guy, but if the Phoenix Suns take him at #17 I might roll my wheelchair off a bridge. He plays a smart game, but is he shot is very inconsistent and opposing small forwards are going to fly right by him. He will not get drafted in the first round. At best he would be the second or third player off the bench.

Of course that's just my $.02.

Drafting Luke Walton would bring Bill closer to the Suns' organization, even if only a little bit. That's a fate worse than death, as far as I'm concerned. Bill is an insufferable babbling dunderhead, and I already can't handle the limited dose of him I'm forced to endure while watching TV. I don't want the Suns to have anything to do with anything even tangentially connected to Bill Walton -- let alone his son, for crying out loud.

You have to feel for Walton. Last year if he had come out he would have been a lottery pick. Probably top 6.

It doesn't pay to go back to school and risk having an injury filled season like Walton suffered. By finishing his degree, he cost himself millions in guaranteed money.

I seriously doubt that. Like I said earlier, I like Walton. I just don't think any team would have taken in the lottery last year. He might have been a late first-round draft pick.

Well Joe I am sorry but I remember last year well.

Walton was rated as the #3 prospect in the draft by NBADraft.net and ESPN last year until he pulled his name out.

Walton was considered to be better than Dunleavy, but in my opinion they are basically the same player.

Uh - I'd like to see some back-up for that, because no way in hell do I believe that to be possible.

The best I can do for you is this (from ESPN):

Professional Outlook: Walton has had a disappointing season, thanks in part to reoccurring injuries, and it has caused his stock to slip considerably. Once a lock for the first round, Walton is now being labeled a second-rounder. Still, there is a lot of respect for him in NBA circles. Many consider Walton to be the best passer in the draft, period.

Looking for information from over a year ago is difficult at best.

I really don't remember Walton ever being rated that high, but even if he was it doesn't mean he would have been a lottery pick. A year ago Kendrick Perkins was rated #2 on NBADraft.net, and James White who would be lucky to be drafted at all at this point was #3.

Wait a second. Are you saying he was rated as the #3 prospect at this time last year for the 2002 draft ?

That's cool. Didn't mean to come off like a jerk if I did in my last post. It's just that Walton's athleticism, or lack thereof, would have been suited for days of yesteryear and I have a hard time believing he could ever have ben looked at as the third highest prospect.

Chris, I really do not remember him ever being considered for the lottery. I thought he was projected as a mid-to-late first-round draft pick.

I think Walton can be this year's Carlos Boozer. He's a guy that's fallen on the draft boards and will probably get picked between 35-40, but he's a guy that can contribute when he's on the court. I don't want the Suns to take him, but I could see him having a decent career as a role player.

Actually I would love

For the Suns to acquire Walton for a second rounder.

Perhaps give Cleveland back their protected pick for their second rounder.
