What a joke this guy is. I remember hearing we paid for roundtrip tickets so his family could come here or he could go there.

I should expected this since he pitched well below his potential. I say keep him and throw him up there as a bat boy. That will teach him to respect our authoritor!!

I can't imagine Vazquez has much value. At his salary, I don't think anyone would give more than a couple of midlevel prospects.

The RJ trade is looking worse and worse. Unfortunately, the best player we got in the deal we shipped to LA for Shawn Green. If I had to guess right now I'd say Vazquez and cash to the Marlins for a package of minor leaguers.

On the bright side we can get his contract off of the books...

The question now becomes who will be our number 1 starter?

If Moorad, Matty, and company running the show I'm guessing it'll be some third starter we overpay for in free agency.

If Byrnes actually does have control, it'll be Webb while we rebuild.

I'm fine with this. He spoke well of AZ - and I suspect none of you have travelled by plane for 12-14 hours with two small children...

He didn't knock our socks off, but he will be in reasonable demand in a lame FA year - we might be able to get one really stud, almost-ready prospect for him, plus shed $12M - I'd be fine with that.

This will indeed be a real test of Byrnes - how creative he is, how hard a deal he can drive, and - yeah, does he really have anything to say about trades and acquisitions, or is he window dressing.

Or how's this - Javy for nothing, but they take Russ Ortiz, too.

With as well as Byrnes knows the Boston farm system, don't be surprised to see something happen there. I'd love to see Papelbon as a part of the deal.

I agree with Zenny he is not asking for more money or a contract extenstion just to have an opportunity to be closer to his family it is hard to fault a man for that. I think some may be underestimating this guys trade value. He is in his prime at 29 has averaged 206 innings over the past few years and I would assume has his best stuff ahead of him... He will get plenty of interest, the free agent market is extremly weak this year and there are plenty of big market teams that need quality arms...

 THANK YOU.....

Durable Stikeout starting pitchers are like centers in basketball, they get over paid for because the potential gain is very high.....

and think what you want about vasquez but his stuff is really quite filthy and he is still relatively young......

I think we could get Cole Hamels or Gavin Floyd (top pitching prospects) from the Phillies and that would be nice although they have struggled this year.....if we throw in a guy like Santos, Quentin or possibly Glaus they might even be willing to part with Chase Utley too....(maybe....i know they like him)

That Loduca trade might be even more likely...

LoDuca just moved in to my girlfriend's neighborhood, so I don't doubt that he wouldn't mind playing here. I think it's fairly certain that either he, or Ramon Hernadez, or one of the Angels catching prospects will be playing for us next year.

I think the mention of A.J. Burnett, Kevin Millwood, Jarrod Washburn, Matt Morris and Jeff Weaver all seem unlikely to me. I just worry that by trading Vasquez we won't be able to find another number 1 starter. We all know Webb is at best a number 2 guy. So I guess it will remain to be seen...

If we bring in LoDuca in a Vazquez trade I'll definitely know Byrnes has no say in the front office. He's easily one of the most overrated players in baseball and is getting paid like he's going to the Hall of Fame. This team ain't winning this year or next, we may as well get the minor league talent we never got for RJ and Schilling.

Heard a rumor from somewhere, forgot the source but it said if we traded Vazquez we would probably pursue A.J. Burnett to replace him.

I would be OK with that. However Burnett's injury problems do concern me some. But of the possible FA's out there, Burnett would be my number 1 choice.

Yeah I would much rather just trade him for a couple good pitching prospects. Then use that freed up money to persue someone else like Burnett.

If we get LoDuca for anything more than flakes of skin, we are getting ripped off. I would hate to have him on the team. Would rather give Hill and Snyder another year.

Who was our number 1 starter before?

Surely it wasn't someone with a 4+ era...

I don't want Burnett, he cost too much and is injury prone. I would like to see them go after Washburn. He is much cheaper and the guy can pitch.
