Not official and from Profootballtalk.com however this would make him faster than both Boldin & Fitz. He will be a top 10 pick for sure,
WOW!!!

DAVIS IS A "FREAK"

There's a new freak in town. And his name is Vernon Davis.

We're told that Davis, a tight end from Maryland who left a year early, measured in at 6'3" and 255 pounds at the combine.

And on Monday he ran the 40, per a league source, in 4.38 seconds.

(This info likely was broadcast via the NFL Network, but yours truly had to work for a living today.)

The source described Davis as a "freak," a term that previously had been reserved for folks like Randy Moss, Jevon Kearse, and that plastic-faced transsexual they did a story about on Entertainment Tonight over the weekend.

Look for Davis to end up in the top of round one based on his remarkable combination of size and speed.

He also led the next best tight end in the long jump by nearly one foot, turning in a 10-8. The standing long jump is considered a good indicator of explosion.

So the dude is freaky fast and equally as explosive.

He also looked good in the TE drills.

(Note - So did Lewis and Pope. I thought Pope - who ran a 4.61 - had the best hands of all of them).

Personally, I think Pope is a much better fit for this offense than Davis. He is a stronger blocker and is a great outlet reciever. Which makes him a great fit for this offense.

That may be our pick right there.

Some mocks have us taking him, Rowen loves TE's and that actually would be a great weapon to add.

You put him out there with a three WR set featuring Boldin and Fitz and someones going to be open.

I don't see it happening. Unless we have an awesome free agency and fill all our needs , I just don't see it happening.
NFL Network also said that ALL the tight ends there will need to be given time to learn how to block.

 Agreed - he's a luxury we don't really need at this time. There are so many excellent TE's in this draft anyway.

I still want LenDale.

I think he had a 42" vertical at the combine too. That is freaky to be 255 lbs. and be able to have that kind of leaping ability. Saw his interview at the combine and he seemed like a good guy.

IMO Davis is the best complete athlete in the draft. Bush is not a guaranteed every down NFL back and VY has some glaring holes in his game that he will have to prove he can overcome/learn (playing under center, etc).

I definitely think "the BPA thinking" would have us picking Davis, Huff, White or Greenway at #10 depending on how things shake out #1-10.

Can't say I would complain about any of them.

If we go by the BPA, then if he is there, I figure he is the pick. Hard to bring down as well. A defense would have to have a S cover him as he would eat 95% of most LB's up.

Simply put... there is our Burner!!

Hell, I know he is a TE but you could make him a WR in someplays as well.

I never thought I would want VD!!

If we do not develop a running game the defense can double up on everyone and it want make any difference how fast he is or how high he can jump. In order for every one to play to their potential we must have a running game. That is our highest priority. If we can draft this guy and still develop a good running game then have at it but I am factoring in NEED as well as BPA in my quest for a winning team.

P.S. I was watching FOX news this morning and Kiki Barber appears to be a regular of sorts. Not reporting on sports but just one of the host. He was excellent. Must have majored in communications. He will have no problem with a job when he retires. Smart and talented guy.

John we had no running game last year and still had two receivers go over 1400 yards. Defenses just can't shut down the pass between the 20's when you have receivers like Fitz and Boldin. Davis would be a serious weapon in the redzone. Something the Cards need desperately.

That is if he isn't standing on the sidelines while they pound the ball into the back of the right Guard three times.

Vernon Davis is now my pick for the Cardinals. I wanted the Cards to go Defense but you can't pass up a playmaker like this guy. This guy is an animal!

I've seen Tiki a few times and the guy is really well-spoken. he was on a Giants show a couple years ago and really comes across as knowledgeable and insightful. He's definitely got a future in the media if he wants it.

i like davis after his workout also. unforntually i don't think he going to be their when the cardinals pick. i feel he won't get pass the 49ers or the raidiers. their are teams that need someone like davis.

I cant believe myself. I went from being a NO TE #10 OR I WANT TO DIE... to lets move up to the top 5 to make sure that we land this guy.

What an amazing specimen.

The 49ers do have Johnson as their TE and they will need a LB more with Peterson leaving IMHO. The Raiders is the team that I am convinced would pick Davis, eventhough their defense is more than suspect.
