After the Cardinals defeated the Seahawks at Sun Devil Stadium last year, they won two of their next three games to get within a game of .500 and revive hope for the season.
A win Sunday against the visiting Seahawks could have a similar effect on this 2-5 season.
After Seattle, the Cardinals play at Detroit (3-4), at St. Louis (4-4) and at home against the Jaguars (4-3). Of course, first things first: The Cardinals have to beat the Seahawks.
To do that, they must find a way to duplicate what they did last season, when they held Seattle running back Shaun Alexander to 57 rushing yards and no touchdowns and intercepted four Matt Hasselbeck passes. Linebacker Gerald Hayes also blocked a punt for a safety in the fourth quarter for an 18-17 lead.
"Arizona came out real aggressive," Hasselbeck recalled Wednesday. "They did some blitz things that we had never seen them, or anyone else in the NFL, do, and that created some problems for us. It took us a while to figure out what they were doing and how to handle it."
Revenge factor
Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett has a grudge against Seattle. When the Seahawks were on their way to a 37-12 win against the Cardinals earlier this season, Dockett said the Seahawks were still throwing deep down field trying to run up the score.
"I took that they were really on a revenge check," Dockett said. "Anytime you start throwing bombs in the fourth quarter when you're up by 21, I think there is something personal with that."
Earlier this week, Alexander told Seattle reporters that the Cardinals were talking "mess" last season in the win at Sun Devil Stadium, a claim Cardinals players denied. In two games against the Cardinals since then, Alexander has totaled 294 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Roster move
With linebackers Karlos Dansby and Lance Mitchell limited by minor knee injuries, the Cardinals promoted fifth-year linebacker Isaac Keys from the practice squad. Rookie free-agent safety Ernest Shazor, who is on the practice squad, also worked out with the linebackers.
The team released fifth-year cornerback Raymond Walls. Walls, had been inactive the past three games.
Injury update
Tight end Teyo Johnson (shin), cornerback Antrel Rolle (knee), guard Elton Brown (knee), and receivers Reggie Swinton (toe) and Anquan Boldin (knee) did not practice Friday. Dansby (knee) and linebacker Lance Mitchell (knee) missed a portion of practice.
Extra points
Seattle coach Mike Holmgren spent some time in his Valley home during his team's off week last week. He said he rode his motorcycle and enjoyed the sunshine.
• Seattle defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes will not make the trip after being sent to a hospital Friday. Rhodes suffered a mild stroke in early September and called his doctor Friday after experiencing extreme tiredness. Linebackers coach John Marshall has been serving as the defensive coordinator.
• Sun Devil Stadium gates will open at 12:30 p.m., and the Cardinals encourage fans to enter the stadium by 1:30 p.m.
• There will be a pregame tribute to U.S. armed forces veterans in recognition of Veterans Day next Friday. Sunday's tribute coincides with what would have been former Cardinals safety and Army Ranger Pat Tillman's 29th birthday.
