SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Click the video above to preview the Chiefs’ and Maidens’ bi-district round matchups.
It’s officially soccer playoff season in the Concho Valley. The Lake View Chiefs and Maidens each begin their respective playoff journeys in Midland on Thursday.
The five-time defending district champion Chiefs are set to face El Paso Ysleta, looking to stay red-hot having won 18 of its last 19 games. The winner of this matchup faces either Decatur or West Plains in the next round. For the Chiefs, it’s been a magical ride for head coach Kyle Jones, who also earned his 100th career win earlier this season. More importantly, Jones’ squad has its eyes set on a bigger goal, and that starts in the bi-district round.
“We’ve accomplished the first two goals. [Lake View] went undefeated in district, we won district and now the third goal is to get out of the first round and that’s all [the players] talk about every day in training,” Jones said.
As for the Maidens, second-year head coach Courtney Green has taken her squad to the postseason with a 10-9-1 record, now set to face 12-8 El Paso Austin in the first round. The winner of this matchup plays either Decatur or Canyon next. Green’s squad returns to the postseason with its eyes set on reaching new heights this time around.
“Last year [Lake View] played the team that’s undefeated in their district, and I knew going into it that most likely we’re going to get worked and we were just going to enjoy it while we can. But this year, we’re preparing. We’re coming in and we’re going to be ready,” Green said.
The Chiefs’ matchup kicks off at 3:00pm and the Maidens begin their matchup at 4:00pm.
