Brett Favre recently encouraged Aaron Rodgers to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

"By all means, sign with them," Favre said recently on Fox News' "The Will Cain Show."

It would have completed the same quarterback journey that Favre took to end his career.

A Hall of Fame career with the Green Bay Packers. Multiple MVPs and a Super Bowl title in Green Bay. A messy ending before being traded to the New York Jets.

Favre, of course, then concluded his career with the Vikings, the Packers' fierce division rival.

But it appears Rodgers won't be following that path if he decides to continue playing at age 41.

The Vikings aren't pursuing Rodgers, the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday.

Minnesota lost Sam Darnold, its breakout starting quarterback from last season, in free agency but it's moving forward with 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy as its QB. McCarthy, who won the 2023 national championship at Michigan, missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury.

The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say.

Many had speculated that Rodgers could land in Minnesota if the Vikings wanted him. But that door appears to be closed, potentially leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants as the next likeliest contenders to acquire Rodgers, a free agent for the first time in his career.
