When free agency began last week, the Minnesota Vikings had a significant need for the interior defensive line. One week later, the position group didn't appear to have as much of a need as the Vikings had signed longtime veterans Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave.
However, Allen (30) and Hargrave (32) are both older. They also both sustained injuries that forced them to miss much of the 2024 season. That could lead the Vikings a contender to select one of the many potential first-round defensive line prospects when they're on the clock next month.
Kyle Crabbs of The 33rd Team believes the Vikings could do so in his latest mock draft. He has the Vikings selecting Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon at pick No. 24.
Harmon, 6'4 1/2" and 313 pounds, could provide immediate help as a rotational player while learning and developing into a long-term starter behind Allen and Hargrave. It would be similar to last year's draft when the Vikings selected Dallas Turner after signing Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard at EDGE.
It should be noted that the Vikings had position coaches at Oregon's Pro Day on Tuesday, per "NFL Draft Diamonds'" X account.

Minnesota's overhaul of the trenches in free agency has been impressive to watch.
Still, how much does Javon Hargrave have left in the tank? For one of the league's best rosters, getting young names in the pipeline to take over long-term is a must for Minnesota to sustain its window.
