The Vikings and teams around the have made it a point to bring in former players as assistants, and even head coaches. We have a prime example of it in Kevin O'Conell leading the Vikings successfully during his tenure with the team.
This week, the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell added another former player to his staff.
Alec Lewis of The Athletic reported the Vikings had hired Charlie Frye as a defensive assistant. Frye played quarterback in the NFL for six seasons for the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders. Frye was also an offensive coordinator at FAU for the last two seasons.
He also notably worked for Brian Flores in Miami during the 2021 season as a quarterbacks coach. He now will be working with Flores once again but in a different role than he has ever had in his coaching career. Despite being a coach at various schools and teams since 2012, Frye has never coached the defensive side of the ball.
