The Minnesota Vikings received a third-round compensatory pick in this year's draft. That will be the 97th overall pick, giving the Vikings four picks heading into draft weekend.

Minnesota also owns a first-round pick (24th overall) and two fifth-round picks (139th and 160th overall). The additional compensatory pick allows them to be active on the second day of the draft, which holds the second and third rounds.

The number of picks could change, as the Vikings are strong contenders to trade down in the first round after addressing several holes during the first week of free agency. A trade-down would add at least one additional pick, but potentially more, depending on how far down the Vikings are comfortable moving.

However, because they addressed so many needs in free agency, the Vikings could be a surprise candidate to trade up in the draft. If a talented prospect like Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty or Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant were to fall to pick 20, the Vikings could see value in trading up to take them, knowing they don't have as many holes to address.

The Vikings were aggressive in last year's draft to acquire J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner, which is part of the reason they don't have many picks this year. But due to shrewd moves in free agency, Minnesota enters the 2025 draft with lots of flexibility.
