"EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota (Ticker) - Linebacker Chris Claiborne, who led the Detroit Lions in tackles each of the last two seasons, signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.

Terms were not disclosed but the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Claiborne accepted a two-year deal worth $5 million, including a $750,000 signing bonus.

The ninth overall pick in the 1999 draft, Claiborne is expected to start at strongside linebacker and is considered a long-term replacement for middle linebacker Greg Biekert.

Claiborne was a consensus All-Rookie choice in 1999 after winning the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker while at Southern California."

That is a pretty cheap contract.

I know he has underacheived in the NFL after being a stud at usc, but he played pretty well last year, and is a pretty solid lb.

Is he worth tons of money, no.

Is he worth 5 mill over 2 years? Yes, and then some.

For that sort of deal I wish the cards would have gone after him.
