My two cents.... I don't think Young, or any mobile/athletic QB would be a very good fit for our team.
We are setting up a precision/timing offense. The strength of our team is with Q and Fitz. Hopefully with a real running back like Edge, our wide-outs can become even more effective as defenses have to show some respect for our running game and play-action fakes.
IMO, the last thing we want is a QB that is going to run around trying to make spectacular plays with his athleticism in the face of any pass rush. We need the classic pocket passer to stand back and run our offense, be able to see who among Q, Fitz, Johnson, Edge, Bergen (hopefully VD) is open, and get them the ball to make plays.
We keep hearing that our offense is similar to the Rams, similar to the Colts, similar to Denny's Viking teams. None of them use athletic QB's. (Dante is athletic, but I don't recal the Vikes relying on his scrambling / improvising ability to win games for them - Dante did well getting the ball out to his playmakers, namely Moss.) Instead these offenses are run efficiently by statuesque QBs such as Warner, Manning, Bulger, Jeff George. Cunningham, once the model athletic QB, did well in Minni as a pocket passer.
If we draft Vince, I'll certainly root for him; however, I won't be surprised if we take someone else even if Vince is on the board and available.
Go Cards!!!
