My computer had a pop-up on the lower task bar that said my computer does not have enough virtual memory on it? Does anyone know what the hell that means and how you fix it?

Add more RAM or you can adjust your virtual memory manually

Right click on My Computer and go to properties -> advanced -> performance -> advanced

Virtual memory is down at the bottom of the window that pops up. By rule of thumb you should set your minimum to 1.5 x the RAM in your system and the high should be 2X your RAM

Hope that helps

I run my page file off my D: drive for better performance. I have a GIG of RAM but I run at 1024 because it takes up too much HD space

I actually turn this off on my desktop, so I can force programs (games) to use the hardware memory.

Nah, thats "talking geek".

You use internet explorer then? Have you run any spyware scans lately? They could be using memory in the background.

Hit CTL+Shift+ESC and look at your processes running. Sort by mem usage and look to see what is taking up your memory. Type the process name into Google and it will tell you what it is and if you need it. Chances are you have something using all your memory.

or you could be like my wife and open Outlook, Word, Excel, powerpoint, playing your MP3's and surfing the web and wonder why the computer is slow
