I got a call tonite from a guy claiming that they had (somehow) received a notification that my computer was infected with a virus, causing my Microsoft programs to not run properly. Hmmmmmmm..... really?

I hung up on the guy, figuring that he would try to talik me into giving him remote access to my computer so that he could "fix it."

A number of alarm bells went off when he called...

1. Had an India-Indian accent.

2. My wife and I have different last names, and he called me Mr. (wife's last name).

3. The only Microsoft program I run is Windowns 7. (I use Open Office instead of MS Office and Thunderbird for my email).

4. I don't think anyone would call me telling me my computer had a virus.

5. I use Avira anti-virus protection and had just done a scan yesterday. I always follow up my Avira scan with a Malwarebytes scan..... both came back negative.

Anyway, the number this guy called from is 909-898-1037. 909 is an East LA area code, but it could just be a "front number" for a foreign caller (I don't know exactly how that works, but I'm told it's fairly common stuff).

Anyway.... the guy actually called back when I hung up on him. I didn't bother answering.

Thought I'd share this little tidbit with y'all....

We should all call him and tell him he has a computer virus.

I received the same call as well, about a month or two ago. I couldn't understand him exactly, as I'm horrible with accents, and the connection was terrible. I eventually hung up on him as well.
