Yet another '80s cartoon comes to the big screen, this one with a soundtrack by Neptunes leader Pharrell Williams.
"I'll form... box-office dollars!"
One thing will be certain about the Voltron movie: It'll have a cool soundtrack. That's the hope of Pharrell Willams, leader of the Neptunes and executive producer of the movie Voltron: Defender of the Universe. In addition to producing the film and its soundtrack, Pharell will also write the score.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe, an animated show from the '80s, tells the story of five young space jockeys who travel into space to learn how to control one of five robot ships. Each episode, the five heroes combine their personal robots into one giant robot: Voltron. As Voltron, the five must work together to defeat the evil alien Drule Empire. So, not only was Voltron an exciting after-school event, but also it presented lessons on the importance of team building.
The Voltron movie is being produced by Mark Gordon, who produced the films The Day After Tomorrow and Saving Private Ryan. The Voltron film joins a growing roster of '80s cartoons that are making make their way to the silver screen, including John Woo's He-Man, Spielberg and Bay's Transformers, and The Smurfs.
