HILLSDALE COUNTY — With week 3 events in the books, it’s time to announce the nominees for the third HD Mechanical Heating, Cooling and Plumbing Supply House Athlete of the Week of the spring sports season.

Readers can vote as many times as they want through Thursday, April 24 at 11:59 p.m. In addition, we will make our own choice for who we think was the Week 3 Athlete of the Week. Readers can view our pick with the results over the weekend. Coaches can submit nominations by Sunday morning each week in order to have an eligible nomination. Additional coaches’ submissions can be made up to 24 hours after the poll has been posted. Only coaches' submissions may be made and exceed the 10-nomination limit.

Schools may have more than one nominee for different sports. Polls will be monitored for foreign IP addresses. Polls close at 11:59 p.m. Schools that win two polls in a row will not be eligible for the next poll but will be eligible for our honoree pick.

Brayden Wright – Reading Boys Track and Field: The junior earned two wins in the 100-meter dashes at the dual with Stockbridge and the Ralph Crume invitational. He won the same meets in the 200-meter dash event, hitting a new career PR of 22.92 seconds. He led the 4x200 team to a third-place finish at the Ralph Crume invite.

Riley McCumber – Pittsford Girls Track and Field: The senior took second in the 800 at the first SCAA jamboree of their schedule. The senior took first in all of her 1,600-meter races at the Dale Shook invite, the Ralph Crume invite and the SCAA jamboree. McCumber also took first at the SCAA jamboree and the Ralph Crume invite in the 3,200-meter run. The senior led the 4x400 and 4x800 teams to wins at the Dale Shook invite (4x400 4:49.83, 4x800 12:08.01) and Ralph Crume invite (4x400 11:19.08).

Megan Kast – Hillsdale Girls Track and Field: The senior Hornet won the 100-meter dashes at the Onsted dual and the Gina Relays, hitting a new career PR of 13.17 seconds. She also won the 200 dash against Onsted with a new career PR time of 27.76. She anchored the 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish at the Gina Relays.

Grayson Rorick – Hillsdale Academy Boys Track and Field: The junior took first in the 1,600-meter race at the Gina Relays with a time of 4:24.70, a new personal best time, currently putting him second in all Division 4 boys track runners in that event. The time broke the school record for that event.

Wesley Wilson - Litchfield Baseball: The senior was crucial in getting three wins this week for Litchfield, including a 25-10 final over Bellevue, a 12-5 win over Waldron and a 12-1 win over Athens. His four-game stretch in Week 3 saw him earn five hits, 10 runs and 11 stolen bases. He earned the win on the mound for the Terriers against Waldron, pitching four innings in relief and earning 10 strikeouts and a zero earned run average.

Jayden Martinez – Camden-Frontier Baseball: The sophomore struck out 11 of the 25 batters he faced in the 10-2 win over North Adams-Jerome. He allowed just three hits and a zero earned run average. He finished Week 3 with six hits, four RBIs, four runs, three stolen bases and 16 strikeouts on the mound.

Kade Shannon - Jonesville Baseball: Shannon hit the first homer of the season for Jonesville baseball in a 5-3 win over Columbia Central. That home run was the first run in the game for the Comets. Shannon finished the week with four hits, including a double, three RBIs and a run. Shannon also had 10 putouts.

Dellashae Saxton - Waldron Softball: Saxton earned two wins in the circle in finals of 13-8 and 17-0 over Gorham Fayette. The senior came into game one after one inning and pitched four earning five strikeouts and allowing just one earned run, no hits. In game two, Saxton pitched three innings, allowing just two hits and no earned runs. She struck out three batters. Saxton also had three RBIs and two runs.

Shyanne Ellsworth – Hillsdale Softball: The senior helped the Hornets beat Concord 14-7 with two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run scored. The senior also had three RBIs, a double-base hit, a triple and a run scored in three other games this week. The senior finished the week with five RBIs on four hits.

Harlee Groves – Camden-Frontier Softball: The RedHawk softball player helped her team defeat North Adams-Jerome in a 10-7 final thanks to a grand slam in the game, along with another base hit. Groves added another double-base hit, two hits, one RBI and three runs in Week 3.

Setzer Burnett - Pittsford Baseball: The senior pitched all seven innings to get the win (4-1) against Tekonsha, the first W of the season for Wildcat baseball. Burnett allowed four hits but just one earned run whilst striking out six.
