The Ohio High School Athletic Association has sent a survey to member schools, asking football head coaches, athletic directors and principals about the state’s playoff format.
Currently, 16 teams qualify for the playoffs from each region. There are 28 regions – four in each of the seven divisions – meaning 448 teams advance to the postseason.
For the 14 teams that play in the seven state championship games, the season is 16 weeks long – 10 regular-season games followed by six playoff games.
The Dispatch wants to know what our readers think of the playoff format. Do you prefer the current setup, going back to eight qualifiers per region – that was the format from 1999-2019 – or 12 qualifiers per region with the top four getting a first-round bye?
Vote in our poll, which will remain open until noon April 30.
