Vote Nash.

Barbara Barker

This MVP thing is getting messy, really messy. There's whiteout all over my hands and eraser shavings all over the desk. I've hit the delete key so many times that my right index finger needs a splint.

The problem is sort of the opposite of your average presidential election: There are too many good candidates. With only four days left until MVP ballots are due, a compelling case can be made for a half dozen players. So that's what I will do here. And then I will ask for your help. After reading the arguments below, please go to Newsday.com and tell me who you think should be MVP.

Because New Yorkers love Kobe and respect him and his game. Just like New York loved/hated Jordan too.

Is she one of the voters? How did she get the job if somebody else is doing the homework for her? Figure out your MVP on your own, damn it!

You don't actually believe that, do you? LOL

They chose Kobe because his name is the most recognizable, and he's not a hated Eastern adversary of the Knicks. It's all about the exposure that ESPN gives him and Dirk.

Actually I do believe that. MSG has always embraced Kobe, and the atmosphere there is good for him. Every year when the Lakers play in NY, the announcers and the pregame shows always talk about how much respect NY has for Kobe. He was also a demigod when he went to Rucker and played.

One of the Mavs sites has noticed the vote option and they too have been soliciting votes for their man.

I first came across the poll at a Mavs website. I'm sure it's on a Lakers' site somewhere, too.

Well, I figured it wouldn't get many votes if it was just buried it in an indirect thread, so I took my chances.

Kobe and Dirk were already beating nash by 300+ votes when I first posted this, so...

I'm very disappointed in the voter who is organizaing this. If the league wanted voters who were just going to follow fan polls, they would poll the fans themselves, the way they do for the All-Star game. There's no point putting ballots in the hands of people who can't or won't think on their own.

Wow, your Kobe-colored glasses are pretty strong.

I'm sure it's being done 'tongue-in-cheek' and she already knows who she is voting for. Plus, as someone else said, generates a lot of traffic to their website.

Maybe it's the announcers that are making the comments, and the MSG faithful that chant his name, or erupt when he goes in for a dunk, etc. etc. that have the Kobe colored glasses on.

Sorry, but that's what happens when Kobe is in MSG. Are you pretending that it does NOT happen?

I'm just tired of hearing about how much Kobe is a god from you and your brethren. Kobe gets cheers wherever he goes. And it's because he gets the most exposure in the media. Run a poll in New York about who the better player is: Lamar Odom or Shawn Marion. We all know the answer, but the odds are good that Odom might actually win that poll simply because he's on the Lakers.

Hey, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Kobe earned his name not just as a great basketball player but also as a rapist who got away with it. I was chatting with an old worker yesterday and I told him about Nash and how he won it last season and he may repeat it this season. I asked him if he knew who "Kobe" is and he said he "hates him". I asked why and he said "He raped that girl and got away with it.". lol This guy doesn't know anything about basketball but he knows Kobe. Great exposure I say. This worker certainly doesn't know who Steve Nash is. The only players he knows are Shaq, Kobe, MJ and probably Bird since that is such a funny last name.

The poor MSG faithful have endured so much losing, and it appears that it will not change in the near future. Maybe they are looking for a Messiah, and Larry Brown was not he. There is a whole culture of simplistic basketball fans that believe in "the man". It sells alot of shirts, shoes, and memorabilia, but does not lead to the best basketball. This "bobblehead" basketball cannot beat Manu's minions from Argentina, who play team ball. The lakers need to go to their showtime roots, where team basketball and not selfish individual play won titles. I actually think the showtime lakers were a much better team than the kobe and shaq show. The showtime teams were among the best of all time, the kobe and shaq show teams could not beat the '95 rockets.

Yeah, that's the only reason. Has nothing to do about his (Kobe's) tenacity and killer instinct on the court.

And Odom would win that poll because he is from New York, not because he's on the Lakers.
