The high school spring sports season is upon us.

Our preseason coverage continued this week with the annual athletes to watch list in softball. More is in the works for other sports this month. But sticking with softball: who gets the nod for Courier & Press preseason player of the year?

'We stayed the course': How Southern Indiana women's basketball advanced in WNIT

This is were you come in. A reminder this will not impact coverage throughout the season. It's pure bragging rights. -Vote as often as you'd like through Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. Here are the 16 nominees with more on each player below the poll:


Lauryn Adamson, Gibson Southern: The senior outfielder batted .443 with six home runs, 14 doubles and 40 RBIs.

Alaina Allyn, Mount Vernon: The junior pitcher batted .345 with 10 doubles. Also had a 12-10 record with a 2.76 ERA and 174 strikeouts.

Grace Archer, Vincennes Lincoln: The junior infielder batted .514 with six home runs, 10 doubles and 24 RBIs.

Emma Bruggenschmidt, Castle: The junior infielder batted .484 with eight home runs, 12 doubles and 43 RBIs. First Team All-State. All-Metro co-Player of the Year.

Danika Dix, Central: The senior infielder batted .408 with 10 extra-base hits and 12 RBIs. Second Team All-SIAC.

Emme Hoesli, Tell City: The senior outfielder batted .493 for the Marksmen. First Team All-PAC.

Mia Kiegel, Heritage Hills: The senior infielder batted .304 with five home runs and 25 RBIs. Had a 4-2 record with a 2.01 ERA and 43 strikeouts.

Katelyn Marx, Tecumseh: The senior outfielder batted .405 with 14 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Second Team All-State.

Kinley Miller, Reitz: The junior infielder batted .389 with four home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.

Carly Potts, Gibson Southern: The junior pitcher batted .448 with four home runs, 14 doubles and 34 RBIs. Had a 13-2 record with 1.87 earned run average and 88 strikeouts. Third Team All-State.

Peyton Pryor, Boonville: The senior catcher batted .417 for the Pioneers. Third Team All-State.

Kaitlyn Randle, Forest Park: The senior catcher batted .562 with 12 home runs, nine doubles and 29 RBIs. Second Team All-State.

Maddie Rose, Castle: The sophomore infielder batted .447 with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs.

Sadie Winsett, Castle: The senior infielder batted .432 with nine home runs, 14 doubles and 38 RBIs. Had a 14-2 record with 2.29 ERA and 73 strikeouts. All-Metro co-Player of the Year. Second Team All-State.

Hannah Wilke, North: The senior infielder batted .354 with seven doubles and 18 RBIs. Second Team All-SIAC.

Olivia Young, Jasper: The senior infielder batted .531 with five home runs, eight doubles and 34 RBIs. Second Team All-State.
