It's time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of March 10-15. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.
Last week, Seabreeze softball player Kyra McLin captured the honors, claiming 75.3% of the votes.
The News-Journal gathers nominees via email from coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to [email protected]. To round out the ballot, the News-Journal staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online.
Voting will close at 5 p.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.
NASCAR: Drivers continue debate on 'broken' Cup Series approval process
Baseball
Chris Kable, Pine Ridge: The senior ripped a double and a homer with four RBIs in a victory over South Lake.
Nathan Ricko, Spruce Creek: The senior went 5-for-7 with five RBIs across wins over University and Seabreeze.
Lacrosse
Grant Winkler, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior scored four goals and contributed five assists in a 14-0 shutout of Father Lopez.
Softball
Kendal Carson, Atlantic: The senior drilled two home runs, part of a three-hit, six-RBI performance during a win over Seabreeze.
Elaina Padilla, Matanzas: The senior went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs in an 8-3 victory over Taylor.
Tennis
Khloe Akopian, Spruce Creek: The freshman picked up a singles victory at Line 3 and added a No. 2 doubles win against Nease. Akopian ended the week with a 10-0 singles record this season.
Leena Harman, Seabreeze: Harman claimed a singles victory at Line 2 against New Smyrna Beach. She followed that with a No. 1 singles victory against Deltona, bringing her season record to 5-2. She also earned doubles victories against each opponent.
Track and Field
Tim Beauchamp, New Smyrna Beach: The senior won the discus (63.7 meters) and shot put (17.5 meters) events at the Bob Hayes High School Invitational.
Lauren Lancing, Father Lopez: The sophomore finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.44 at the Lake Mary Invitational. Lancing also took second in the 100-meter hurdles.
