When Joaquin Phoenix walks the line in a Johnny Cash biopic, it will be in plastic cowboy boots.

The moody actor is a staunch animal-rights supporter, and drove the wardrobe folks a little batty by insisting on wearing an entirely “cruelty-free” wardrobe, says a source.

“He refused to wear anything made of leather,” says a source. “So even Johnny Cash’s signature cowboy boots had to be approved by PETA.”

Hey, if he can't even wear the same kinds of clothes as the man the movie is about, I don't think he should have the opportunity to play the part. Like me saying I'll play the role of Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing (who cannot have a beard), but I want to keep my beard. Ah, DUH, not happening. Too bad Phoenix's boots weren't made for walking, right off the set.

Phoenix and Witherspoon took lessons and actually do all their own singing (and playing) in this film.

Awesome movie! Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are superb. Phoenix sounds just like Johnny Cash, especially on songs like Stripes, Cocaine Blues and Ring of Fire. Witherspoon and Phoenix are both Oscar-worthy with these performances.

One of the few films I've been to where the audience actually applauded at the end. Definitely check it out.

Saw this today...very good...Phoenix did great, and Whitherspoon too...

Very enjoyable film, but kind of a sad life he had before they finally got married I guess.

I almost couldn't be happy for him seeing what he did to his first wife and kids...but...a good movie.

Wow, what a movie. I want to see Capote now to see why Joaquin lost the best actor Oscar. Some of those long shots and side shots made me tell myself "that's not Johnny Cash?". Simply amazing that they sang all the songs.
