Anyone else going to try it out? If you like balanced PvP with sieges on towns, open world fighting I would reccomend giving this a try. Its hard to let WoW go but after I figured their definition of PvP was running around an arena with 4 other guys, well..yea.

Been playing beta for about 5 months now..its not as polished as wow is now but its def more ready than WoW was when it first hit the shelves.

If any of you decided to try it out my name is Joony on the Dark Crag server... ta ta..

oh heres the trailer....its pretty nice!

It's a game I'm interested in, and competition for WoW could be a great thing, with the CPU's update ability it could be a new way to breathe life into the franchise.

When it goes live if they do a guess pass I'll check it out, but I'm not going to drop $50 blindly and hope for the best.

I'd read a number of good things about Guild Wars and came away disappointed.

I preordered and played beta for a day. My PC would not play it right. I may set my Mac up to play it, but WOW dragged me back in with the refer a friend. I am dual-boxing a warrior and shaman and leveling super fast. Plus Wrath of the Lich King deserves a look from me, so I will sit on my WAR until I am bored with WOW again. I give it 3-4 months.

I'm really liking the game too. I'm impressed with how balanced the game is too, I've seen all the classes shine and struggle making showing it's about the skill of the player instead of the class they are playing. Only pvp gripe I've had was it seems like Order toons get their best pvp spells(knockbacks, roots and such) earlier than Destruction.

The keep siege I was a part of was the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time.

From everything I can find on it, it looks like a WoW knockoff to the extreme, every little character trait... That is a trip, I did not know you could legally plagerize that blatantly, or did I miss something, is this a EA - Blizzard joint effort?

Well, a lot of people claim that Blizzard actually stole from Warhammer as far as character concepts. Warhammer has been around longer as a tabletop game and its lore and such have been around just as long. WAR has been in the planning stages for quite some time, but they have obviously tried to take what they liked about WOW. So I do not know where the line of differentiation is. Hopefully there is enough of a difference to make WAR worth playing.

Awesome info... and very correct, after reading your post I searched both for origin...

Warhammer - 1983 - Tabletop game and book series
Warcraft - 1992 - PC based real time strategy

What a disappointment, I have lost a great deal of respect for Blizzard. I knew that Everquest had tried to sue Blizzard for stealing the fantasy style MMORPG idea from them but I have never heard anything about warhammer. I guess if they had title had been owned by EA or something at that time I probably would have heard something.

Games Workshop also sued Blizzard for the StarCraft Zurg race. Saying it was a rip-off of their Tyranid race from 40k. GW lost because the Tyranid's were a rip-off of Arachnids from Starship troopers to some degree...

Lets face it, you can only spin your creativity so many ways from J.R.R. Tolkiens masterpiece!!!!

Edit: the above banter is my opinion in regards to StarCraft and GW's 40k issue...

Eh, doesn't bother me too much. These other companies had opportunities to do what Blizzard did but didn't. Blizzard is bringing in cash by the dumptruck load every month and sooner or later someone is going to rip off their ideas and no one will feel sorry for them.

As far as new mmorpg's are concerned, the best concept I have heard is for Darkfall. It is very likely that this game will never see the light of day, but WOW and WAR have both already taken ideas from this game that the makers made public. If Darkfall was to ever get done, they've been working on it for years, it would have the potential for taking serious players away from WOW. It is basically a game where you have to be skilled to succeed, which will scare away a lot of people but make for some fun.

Haha Tolkien did set all this in motion. I was watching the cinematic trailer for the new WOW expansion with my brother and we were both floored by how LOTRish it looked. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, just not original.

Wait... the bugs from Starship Troopers were a creation of the late great Heinlein. Which were for the most part just taken from ya know... bugs.

Tolkien had his own influences too, which were probably "inspired" by things we don't know about our simply have forgotten.

Played for the first time last night... Was fun but I don't really have anything to compare it too since this is my first time playing a MMORPG.

im really looking forward to this game opening up a bit once i hit tier 3 (lvl 22-31) our guild is saving up money so we can own a keep after we take it (6g an hour). im playing an engineer rank 21 right now and i love him to death... cant do alot in terms of ranged DPS but i sure can keep those healers busy with all the AOE i can put out.. plus all the knockbacks, snares i have... im betting engys will really shine in T3 -T4 defending keeps and such.

if any of you are interested in trying the game i welcome you to my server dark crag. just message me my name is joony.

You'll probably like the T3 scenario Tor Anroc if you haven't already played it. All the extra knockbacks Order gets gives them a big advantage there. The other scenarios take forever to queue because everyone is playing this one.

Ugh! I really didn't like this game.

1. Too buggy. I know that it supposedly is much less buggier than WoW was when it came out, but I'm not comparing it to the WoW of yesterday, I'm comparing it to the WoW of today. The mail system is horrid and the player animations are amateurish at best.

2. Warhammer is supposed to feel like a gigantic war...except it feels to me like a series of disjointed pvp sessions with the scenarioed RvRs. What they should of done is had NO scenario based RvR and had it all as realm RvRs with objectives. As it stands now, I run around for hours without any PvP and little to no player interactions. Go into a major city and see how much chat is going on....<CHIRP> <CHIRP>... silent at least on my server.

3. PvE content is horrible. Awful. Anyone done any of the dungeons? Any 16 year old game design student could've done a better job. Asinine that they even included this crap. I expected much better, and was shocked at how little strategy it took and how quick it was.

4. Graphics/Sound.....do I need to comment on these? Recolored/Reskinned DAoC. Very little difference and doesn't come close to matching WoW. Also, all the gear looks the same! Very little variety. I love the dye colors I can choose: pink, yellow, silver, turquoise, etc.

Summary: I played a Marauder and actually liked the class ok (though it's very similar mechanically to a warrior in WoW with stance dancing) and made it to Tier 3 (level 23), before I decided the game was a piece of crap. The combat is incredibly choppy and it is not worth $14 a month when WoW is just so much more polished, and has so much more depth. Sure WoW PvP needs a shot in the arm; don't be surprised to see some of the concepts of War to be implemented into WoW. Overall the lack of quality PvE content is what turns me away. I like dungeons, raids, social interaction, and <gasp> instanced PvP. IMO War didn't do any of these things well.

Can anyone say imbalance? Also on my server we got owned in Morkain Temple as well, as the balance of narrow areas favors the class builds of the Order.

As I mentioned above, I really think Mythic should've made it so that everyone is doing world PvP instead of the instanced crap like WoW (which I think WoW does better). I've had epic WSG that have lasted over an hour, and it was fun as hell, but with War the objectives seem to be so shallow.

Alot of good info in this thread.

I'm enjoying the game still, I play a shaman, am up to 23, have a few alts, Black Orc, Squiggy(I like the greenskins obviously). The RvR action in tier 2 has been great so far, on the Ungrim server, we had a 4 hour fight over a keep in Shadowlands last weekend, I couldn't believe that much time went by. I can't wait til i get to 25 and can KNOCK them stupid goodies back like they constantly do to my shaman.

I'm having a blast with the game so far, and that's with PVE, scenarios, RVR all of it, but then again I freaking PWN! I've gone all toughness and wounds gear on my shaman, and the silly witch hunters and goodies think they can kill me, I just stand back and /giggle while I self heal and dance around while they are melted.

<-- Sarvok on Ungrim

PS. IMHO WoW sucked, (cartoony, and nothing to that game for me), I came from EQ2, which is considerably more in depth than both games, but eq2 got old for me, and this is the first game to help me kick the EQ2 habit. Maybe this game leans itself to a more indepth game than a WOWers, EQers will like this game imho, if you PWN and don't suck. ;)

It's not too bad once you level more, order just get their kbs earlier. Only a big issue in that scenario because they just try to knock you in the lava. It didn't prevent destruction winning our fair share. Ulitimately it comes down to the skill of the SP versus the opposition.

They still need to do some class balancing. I think Swordmasters need to be toned down since right now at lvl 40 they are nearly indestructable and have better damage than other tanks. Other than that I'd like to see more balance in the Order/Destruction roots.

As far as the instanced PvP I agree it can get boring and frustrating especially if you have a full group of people queueing and not joining leaving you short handed. However the keep sieges are really fun and I'm really interested to see what the city sieges be like.

See this is where I totally disagree. My opinion is that Warhammer completely lacks depth, there is very little to the game other than pvp and totally unoriginal pve (kill this, get this item is basically all it ever is).

Also the class designs are just lacking in my opinion as well.
