Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors will face off against the Miami Heat on Tuesday, March 25. It will be the first time Butler has returned to South Beach since forcing his way out of the organization, leading to him being traded to the Warriors ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
During a recent media availability, Butler shared his thoughts on his tenure with the Heat. He noted how he enjoyed his time there despite not being able to win a championship with the franchise.
“I love that fanbase," Butler said. "They showed me a lot of love, I’m there to win now, I’m the opposing team...We was aight, we didn’t win nothing like we was supposed to. We made some cool runs, we had some fun, I think that’s all we did”
Butler has played in 19 games since joining the Warriors. He's averaging 17.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field. He has quickly formed an on-court partnership with Stephen Curry, while his defensive upside has created a rearguard tandem with Draymond Green.
The Warriors will likely be expecting a spicy reception for Butler in Miami. Erik Spoelstra's team is currently mired in a terrible losing streak, so the fanbase may take the opportunity to let Butler hear their frustrations after he jumped ship earlier in the year. Nevertheless, Steve Kerr's team will be there to secure a win an continue building rhythm ahead of the postseason, regardless of whether Butler is welcomed or booed throughout the game.
