On Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors suffered one of their most disappointing losses of the season with a 114-111 defeat to the struggling San Antonio Spurs at Chase Center.
With their loss to the Spurs, and only two games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Warriors fell to the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference, putting themselves in jeopardy of playing in the play-in tournament to secure a spot in the postseason.
However, during their night off on Thursday, the Warriors received some help from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Led by Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle, the Timberwolves cruised past the Memphis Grizzlies, 141-125.
With the Grizzlies' loss, the Warriors bumped back into the No. 6 seed in the West. The Warriors, Grizzlies and Timberwolves are all tied for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference with a 47-33 record. Yet, the Warriors currently hold crucial tiebreakers over the Grizzlies and Timberwolves.
Along with sliding back up the standings, the Grizzlies loss to the Timberwolves opened a path for the Warriors to clinch a top-six seed in the West. With back-to-back wins in their final two games over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, the Warriors will be the No. 6 seed or better in the Western Conference. The Warriors can also move higher in the standings with a pair of losses from the Clippers and Denver Nuggets in their final two games.
The Warriors will kick off their final road game of the season on Friday night against the Trail Blazers at 7 p.m. PT at the Moda Center.
