The Washington Football Team revealed Tuesday that it will announce its new team name and logo on Feb. 2, just 11 days before the Super Bowl. While we don't know what the new name will be, team president Jason Wright let everyone know what it wouldn't be: Wolves or RedWolves.

We can't wait to hit the ground running with our team name and identity on a clear path -- one without distracting obstacles, legal or otherwise. And while we've always understood it would be a nearly impossible task to select a name that all of our fans would identify with as their first pick, we are very excited about our final selection, which aligns with our values, carries forth our rich history, represents the region and, most importantly, is inspired and informed by you, our fans.

We are confident that this identity is one that our team and our fans across D.C., Maryland, Virginia and beyond can rally behind for another 90 years and more as we continue to cheer on the Burgundy & Gold in this next chapter.
What comes next is exciting and fast-approaching -- and here's my second update: we can't wait to reveal our team name to the world on Feb. 2, 2022! Mark your calendars, Washington Family. This is not a day you'll want to miss!

Too bad they missed their chance on something cool. Can't wait for it to be super boring like Admirals or whatever.

My wife and her whole family are Washington fans. They were all pretty sure it was going to be Red Wolves but that is now out.

Most fans want the name to start with an R to keep HTTR and the fight song.

"we are very excited about our final selection, which aligns with our values, carries forth our rich history, represents the region"

I am intrigued. What could it be?

With the direction they are going, I think they need to go from 'the Football Team' to the 'Practice Squad' or call them 'Bye' which should allot them to have enough games without losing... and they need to make their uniforms even more generic, with none of their players even allowed to have numbers on their jerseys, oh forget about name tags :)

We've been calling them the Potatoes for a while now. Pretty sure we'll continue that even with the new name.

If they want to represent the past and present the 'Plutocrats' or should they want to anticipate the future 'Autocrats'. ;)

Or they could make a letter change and go from WFT to WTF (What the F...)

And then there's WFT to TFE (taxpayer-funded expenses)
