Senior forward Jonas Aidoo played a pivotal role in Arkansas basketball's first round win over South Carolina in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.
Then on Thursday, Aidoo was on his way to repeating that performance against Ole Miss in the second round - until he fouled out with 4:44 left in the second half.
"I'd say it hurt us a lot," sophomore guard D.J. Wagner said after the loss at Bridgestone Arena. "With the kind of game (Aidoo) was having."
Aidoo came off the bench to lead the Razorbacks with 17 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes against Ole Miss, but missing his size and physicality down the stretch changed the way Arkansas had to defend against the Rebels.
The problem was made worse by an injury to Arkansas forward Zvonimi Ivisic. The 7-foot-2 sophomore suffered a hand injury in the first round against South Carolina and could be seen wearing a hand wrap around his right thumb against Ole Miss. Ivisic played only eight minutes, finishing with zero points and five rebounds.
"It hurt us, but that's something we prepare for," Wagner added. "Going into the small lineup. Just knowing how to play with each other when we don't have (Aidoo and Ivisic) in the game."
Ole Miss beat Arkansas 83-80, winning the game on a buzzer-beater 3-point shot by guard Sean Pedulla - to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Rebels will play Auburn on Friday (noon CT, ESPN).
