NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jaylen Murray knew Sean Pedulla's game-winning shot was going in. It didn't mean he wasn't afraid though as Ole Miss basketball was in a close game in the final minute of Thursday's game.
"I was scared," he said after No. 8 seed Ole Miss stunned No. 9 Arkansas in the SEC tournament on Pedulla's game-winning 3-pointer. "I wasn't trying to lose."
The Rebels (22-10) coughed up a 15-point lead in the first half at Bridgestone Arena and fouled Arkansas' Trevon Brazile with seven seconds left and the game tied. Brazile missed both free throws and Ole Miss charged up the court for Pedulla's game-winner with 1.3 seconds left.
Murray said he had no doubt Pedulla's shot was going in.
"Of course," he said. "Absolutely. That was a great shot."
Murray's full reaction from the Ole Miss locker room is below.
The Rebels led by five points with 3:11 remaining but conceded an 8-0 Arkansas run to trail by three points with 29 seconds remaining. Dre Davis tied the game with a layup and free throw, then Pedulla won it.
"That shot that he just made, I've seen him shoot that shot the whole school year," Murray said. "It didn't surprise me that he took it, and it didn't surprise me that he made it."
Ole Miss advanced to the SEC tournament quarterfinals for the second time since 2017 and will play No. 1 Auburn (27-4) on Friday (noon, ESPN).
Murray scored 17 points for the Rebels, the senior guard's most in a game since Dec. 17.
