On Wednesday, Luka Doncic made his first appearance at American Airlines Center since the huge trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers two months ago. It was an emotional night for him, as Dallas Mavericks fans and the organization he played for prior to the trade showered him with love.

Just prior to the start of the game, the franchise played a video tribute to him on the scoreboard of the arena. He appeared to have tears in his eyes by the time the video was done playing, and he later admitted he wasn't sure if he could even play at that point.

But he did play, and he played likely his best game yet as a Laker.

He reminded Mavs fans what was taken away from them by posting 45 points on 16-of-28 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from 3-point range, as well as eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. He carried the Lakers to a 112-97 win that guaranteed them a top-six seed in the Western Conference and put them one win away from clinching the third seed.

Mavs fans often cheered loudly when Doncic had the ball or scored a basket. When they weren't doing so, they spent time chanting "Fire Nico," a reference to Nico Harrison, the Mavs executive who has been crucified for sending Doncic to L.A. for a 99 Cents Only Stores price.

When Doncic exited the game late in the fourth quarter, the crowd again expressed its appreciation and love for him.

The Lakers, who now have a 49-31 record, will wrap up their regular season with games on Friday versus the Houston Rockets and on Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
