Daniel Cormier's voice broke as the crowd roared at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The former Oklahoma State wrestling great and UFC champion was in disbelief. So was his partner on the ESPN commentary team Saturday night, former Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs.
Oklahoma State heavyweight wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson pulled off the unthinkable — rallying with a late takedown to beat 2021 Olympic champion Gable Steveson, 5-4, to close out the 2025 NCAA wrestling championships.
"Wyatt Hendrickson just beat Gable Steveson," Cormier said, repeating himself.
"The biggest upset in the history of the NCAA," Burroughs said. "Could this be it? Yes. He. Has. Done. It."
Steveson, a two-time national champion, hadn't given up a takedown all season with Minnesota.
