We are so due a break on the IDL (thinking all they way back to the likes of Wendel Bryant).

Please god let Dante Stills be the draft steal of 2023.
I'm starting to think--and I might have to put down the hopium--that, if we can get a stud anchor at the position, him and Stills could be a solid 1-2 starting duo.

I mean, we had Dockett and Calais Campbell. One belongs in the Ring of Honor and the other in the Hall of Fame. Also Antonio Smith turned out pretty good. We just let Zach Allen leave for nothing.

sorry man..... but I counsel cautious optimism here. Stills is an older rookie, gonna be 24 before christmas... that puts him a couple years ahead of most rookies in physical development. I wouldnt expect him to get too much stronger than he is now... mainly skill progression.
fortunately a lot of guys can make a big jump with just proper coaching. worst case scenario, I think he will at least be a solid rotational guy.

nah, screw it...huff the hopium while we can

hmmm... I see your point but we drafted Calais 15 seasons ago, and so if he was our last big hit on a defensive lineman I'm staying with the idea we're due for another "performance greatly exceeds draft position" result for that unit my friend. :)

IMHO, Zach Allen does not qualify as "performance greatly exceeds draft position", haha.

First draft Monti did a solid job, however 2024 draft with all the picks and all the needs combined with KM question marks, this will be an early defining moment for him and his legacy as GM. I hope he nails it and sets the Cards up for sustained success.

Going on the assumption that we finish second, and while I think that MHJ will be there, and I would love to get him, I think that there is zero chance that Monti will stand pat. We have too many needs and a trade back will secure additional draft capital to fill those needs.
Monti has done a great job (IMO) in acquiring draft picks, but now he has to select the right players.

You say he has to now select the right players on one hand, but he has to trade back for more picks on the other. Draft picks don't win games. Draft picks alone don't build a roster. Constantly trading high picks for lower picks only ever allows you to draft lesser talent, on the main. I will not be okay if we pass on another blue chipper for the elusive player Draft Picks.

Just trading back one or two spots to three or four could net a pretty nice return though I think Garthshort.

That seems like a pretty reasonable compromise for maximizing the value of a #2 pick even though we're eventually using it on an non-QB position.

This, while still allowing us to draft MHJ, would be the wise way to go.

I feel like you need to build a foundation with multiple picks. Once you build up that foundation THEN you look for the knock out pieces. I would love MHJ. However, I won't be mad if we trade down, either. It's too early to go for the block buster picks when we need players all over the field. You build a team with solid guys like Kyzir White. After you get a team full of those guys, you draft your MHJ guys.

The whole thing that blows this all up is if they take a QB. Then this all goes out the window. LOL.

Monti's entire 2023 approach was about this coming offseason: priming the pump on draft picks, clearing the decks on Keim's roster and resetting the cap.

My expectations for what he does UFA wise, etc. are way, way higher this offseason than they were the last.

I've listened to JV's and Bo Brak's podcasts and appreciate their in depth coverage of the Cardinals, but yes, he's sometimes guilty of irrational exuberance.

I agree 100%. Last year made perfect sense to do what MO did. We have now accumulated 12+ draft picks. There comes a time when you have to actually build talent, and not just accumulate picks. This is a talent rich draft. Last year not so much. MAKE that 2nd or 3rd pick be a defining one!!

When you have the 2nd, 16th and 34th pick in the draft you should come out with 3 potential starters. Three players we should be able to plug right in.

So much will depend on what we do in free agency. I don’t expect we will be the headliner on the NFL Network but I expect some action to set the tone of the direction we are going.
We can’t depend on 12 rookies to suddenly turn this team around.

If we resign Brown instead of a bigger Wr like Gabe Davis I’m going to puke. Add a quality guard and draft MHJ. We could spend the rest of our draft and free agency on defense. However, I would not be surprised if we draft a day 2 qb.
