You know what's funny? Think of these 3 (just 3!) things went differently:

1) Warner doesn't fumble the snap and Rackers makes a chip shot

2) Rackers makes the 50 yarder vs the Chiefs (made them all last year)

3) Rackers makes the 40 yarder vs the Bears (shouldn't have even come down to that)

We are 6-6.

No one is talking about firing Green or Graves. We are estactic about being in the playoff race and in second place in the West.

Amazing. Think about it.

God pity them both ! and pity us all,
Who vainly the dreams of youth recall;

For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"

Ah, well ! for us all some sweet hope lies
Deeply buried from human eyes;

And, in the hereafter, angels may
Roll the stone from its grave away!

The saddest words
Of tongue or pen
Are these four words
It might have been

We had big dreams
We made big plans
How could they slip
Right through our hands

Instead of tearing
Our own hands to pieces
Why don't we try
To right what we've done wrong

It's not too late
To set things straight
Let's never say
It might have been

Instead of tearing
Our own hands to pieces
Why don't we try
To right what we've done wrong

It's not too late
To set things straight
Let's never say
It might have been

I don't buy that. In hindsight, that would be great news considering how it has actually gone. But in the beginning, you guys had much higher hopes than to be 6-6 this late in the season. You still would be disappointed not to have lived up to the pre-season hype.

You guys still have too much talent for even 6-6. Fix the line next year and you'll see what I mean.

That is a lot of if's.

Should have never been in those situations in the first place as well.

Good teams know how to pull it off in the end. Just take the Seashawks for example, their kicker tied the NFL record for most game ending winning feield goals. 4 of their wins came from game last second game winning field goals.

Its what seperates the good teams from the bad ones, winning at all costs.

Not me. I said all along , get us to 6-6 with 4 to go and we would be right in the thick of it. When you want to consider talent, take a look at teams like the Falcon, Panthers, Giants and Eagles....all 6-6. A .500 record will always have you in the hunt well into december.

DAMN, I said the same thing to my Son last night. The only difference was instaed of Rackers FG vs the Chiefs( cause that would have only tied it) I said the 75 yd, screen pass.
There is a very small line between winning and losing.

Nope, because soooo many things would have been different, since Kurt Warner would likely have been the starter for #2 and 3

Actually...it might. You never know.

Thing about woulda-shoulda-coulda is that self-destructing was part of the team makeup (or at least it was earlier in the season). With more games under our belt, maybe it isn't anymore.

Regarding DG - key aspect of any decision - whether it be investing in the market or deciding a personnel issue - is:

Based on what we know, what we've seen and what our options are - "What's our best course of action looking forward?"

If you look at it in these terms, I'm not sure our best course of action wouldn't be to give DG one more year to make his program work. (With the talent we have on our roster, I really do not want to blow up our program yet again).

One option - which would eliminate the lame duck issue - might be to extend him for one more year but make it quietly understood that, if he doesn't cut bait, that final year's salary will be severance pay.

The Shark

With apologies to Roy Orbison

A candy-colored Cardinal they call the sandman
Flies into my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper,
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."

I close my eyes, then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer, like dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you.

In dreams we win our games.
In dreams our D steps up
In dreams Touchdowns. all of the time
We're in playoffs
In dreams, in dreams.

But just before the dawn,
I awake and find you gone.
I cant help it, I cant help it, if I cry.
I remember that we lost to the Bye.

Its too bad that all these things,
Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams
In beautiful dreams.

If misery loves company --

Carolina has lost five games (including last night's) where it led the game in fourth quarter

that's gotta hurt as well

You just named four teams that, outside of the offensive line, have less talent than the Cardinals. Besides, those teams are just as much "scratching to stay alive" as they are "in the hunt." If you asked any one of those teams how they feel about they're current position, they'll tell you that they're in "What went wrong" mode and you're looking at them as if they're in a good position. Do you see the difference in mentality between teams that win and teams that lose?

Exactly. I have a totally different "hindsight" view and have posted it before.

Warner hangs on to the ball against the Rams and Rackers kicks the game winner there and the Cards are 8-4 maybe 9-3 instead of 3-9 today. That game changed the attitude from the "new cards who find a way to win" back to the "same ol' Cardinals snatching defeat from the jaws of victory".

There is a very small line between winning and losing.[/quote]

that why for the most part the line of games is a touchdown or less when a team scores off a turnover that's the ballgame.....

as i said for the most part...yeah, the bears are an "unreal" exeption because their defense is one of the best EVER.

your point shows how critical some elements of the game are that are only translated in a w/l record

time mgt
discipline during the game
discipline during practices
game planning
advanced scouting

the list goes on and on....the winners have that stuff....the losers make up fairly tales and woulda' coulda' shouda' stories.

Fickle is last week everyone being pretty sure we were probably not going to win another game this year and draft in top 2 or 3. Then this week, after beating a collapsing Rams team, all talking of possibly winning out the rest of the season.

You damn right I'm looking at them as if they were in a good position. They're in the hunt. Something that all of us would love to see our beloved Cardinals. And let me ask you this, are we NOT in a "What went wrong" mode?

Nope, I would have been ecstatic to be 6-6 right now. I thought we'd fall somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. 6-6 would be awesome, and right in line.

Who would have thought that the Giants or Panthers are going to be under .500 after this week?

I thought they'd be 4-12.....another year of being right on. Didn't you go to Flagstaff and watch this team struggle up there??

Question of the moment - Which entire roster of any other NFL team would you trade straight up for the entire Cardinal roster?
