First, the good news: The Cardinals have discussions scheduled this morning with Tom Condon, Leinart's point man in negotiations. There is still enough time to wipe the slate clean, if a deal can be struck quickly. And after watching John Navarre throw the football Saturday, the Cardinals should have plenty of incentive.
But here's the part that has you scratching your head: In the 48 hours leading up to the preseason opener against the Steelers, the Cardinals couldn't be bothered to negotiate with the Leinart camp. It is exactly this lack of competitive urgency that makes you wonder about this team's motives

In regard to the above comments taken from the azcentral.com on August 13th, 2006. I take everything from Dan Bickley with a heavy grain of salt. He's definitely not my favorite reporter... IMO, he tends to take a negative slant on many things just to stir up controversy.
Anyway, if his comments are true I can understand the Cardinals thinking to a certain degree. If Matt Leinart's camp has been dragging their feet up until 48 hours before the game... they can wait a little longer. Why? I can see the Cardinals might feel like his signing and being at the game (but obviously not playing) being a detraction from the opening of the new stadium.
Leinart's signing would have immediately made him the media focus and darling. It would have also detracted from all the hard work the Cardinal players and management/ ownership put into playing their first preseason game... while he did not participate. In essence, perhaps the Cardinals just did not want a straggler coming in at the last second and undeservedly stealing the spotlight. Anyway, just my personal thoughts on the subject.
Now, however, the Cardinals should spare no effort in getting him signed. This is a must.
