Hey guys I use windows xp and recently about a week ago my date/time stoped working right it keeps going from the year 2002 to 2005 and wont stay on 2007 i've tried adjusting the date/time in safe mode and did a virus scan but when I erased the one trojan I had it still keep doing it. Anytime I try to change the time back to 2007 and the correct date it will keep changing years after like 10 min :( if anyone has had this problem and found a way to fix it please let me know its driving me crazy thanks

Two thoughts..... Do a boot scan.... I don't know what virus you have, but if it got by your virus scan in the first place, it might well reinstall itself every time you reboot. A boot scan should fully and completely remove it.

Check the date/time in your BIOS. Make sure it is set correctly.

Other than that.... got me!!!

I did have a work computer that kept doing this, it was reverting back to manufacture dates and blank times... The little battery inside was dead, despite the fact that the MoBo was only a few months old...

Yep, bad battery and its BIOS not keeping the settings is the first thing that I thought of too.

That is what I was thinking too but usually it reverts back to the date the bios was set up. The most common dates you see is Jan. 1, 1990 or Jan. 1, 2004. The fact that it changed to a later date is a little disturbing. He said it goes from 2002 to 2005. I have never seen a bios skip ahead when the CMOS battery is dead.

I am leaning towards virus or trojan as well. He needs to run a boot scan and not just a regular virus scan.

Well, depending on if you update your BIOS settings or not, they could be reset to the day that the BIOS update was released.

But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if a trojan was causing it.

Windows XP has a feature in it that will sync it's time as well. Check your "Time & Date" settings. It could be possible that the virus/spyware you had changed your time server settings as a way to keep tabs on who's been infected (ie "what IP address' are hitting my server?").

It's not a likely possibility, but it'll take you like 30 seconds to check.
